    Accountant

    Key Purpose

    To take responsibility for the entire financial reporting function of various Discovery administered resctricted medical schemes. From the processing of journals up to the preparation of management accounts and reporting to the Council for Medical Schemes.

     

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Preparation of journals and management accounts

    • Month-end reconciliations (balance sheet and income statement)

    • Completion and submission of statutory returns

    • Liaising directly with relevant external parties (Clients, auditors, service providers)

    Java Developer (Senior)

    Key Purpose

    Design and implement robust, scalable and optimally performing systems using Java related technologies, according to provided specifications, standards and procedures, while ensuring compliance with the architectural standards and guidelines laid out by Discovery.

     

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    Design:

    • Translate business requirements into technical designs adhering to Discovery Insure processes, standards and guidelines, taking cognisance of performance, security and scalability requirements. Deliver within agreed timeframes.

    • Liaise with relevant parties where clarification of business requirements or resolution to technical issues is needed

    • Research and find effective solutions to technical issues that arise

    • Estimate development timelines based on business requirements

    Development:

    • Construct robust, maintainable, scalable, optimally performing system code in line with technical specifications, following prescribed process, standards and procedures. Deliver within agreed timeframes

    • Conduct unit testing and fix any defects found

    Testing:

    • Verify build stability and quality with development team before releasing to test team, aiming to release with zero defects

    • Assist the Business analyst in ensuring the test pack includes relevant scenarios and test data.

    • Consult and assist in reviewing risk / impact of defects found in testing, and assist with fixing where necessary

    Support / Troubleshooting:

    • Assist system users with technical support issues and handle according to defined procedures

    • Ability to effectively analyse root cause of system errors (data errors, performance and stability issues)

    Mentoring / Team development:

    • Actively coach other developers to understand and apply the Insure coding and architectural standards correctly, as well as any technologies in use

    Data Scientist

    Key Purpose

    The key purpose of this role is to use big data, predictive analytics and up to date AI techniques in order to identify and detect potential fraud within the Discovery Health business. The successful candidate will need to be able to mine large data sets to find and present new insights to business

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Connecting with a multitude of stakeholders to understand the data in a healthcare and fraud context

    • Mining large structured and unstructured datasets for data exploration to find new insights to detect healthcare fraud

    Key Purpose of the role

    The primary function of this role is to conduct quality audits on the critical business processes within the business and provide a DPMO score for the work processed within Discovery Life Group Risk. A key purpose is to add value to current processes by identifying gaps and proposing innovative recommendations that will impact efficiencies and the quality of work produced. You will therefore need advanced technical skills, particularly in excel, excellent communication skills and be comfortable working to extremely tight deadlines.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Conduct quality audits across critical business processes within the Discovery Life Group Risk area

    • Conduct risk-based audits taking cognisance of business rules, process protocols and guidelines, compliance, legislative and regulatory requirements

    • Provide error trend analysis and feedback reports on issues identified

    • Compile daily/ weekly/ monthly stats

    • Need to align quality assurance standards across Discovery (where applicable)

    • Sound understanding of the Group Risk products and business processes

    • Have a good understanding of the business rules and check for correct application of these when work is processed or when information is provided to clients

    • Need to understand and know the application of Compliance and Legislative requirements within the product offering and business processes

    • Stay abreast of quality assurance best practice adopted within other areas across Discovery

    iOS Developer (Intermediate)

    Key Purpose

    This team is responsible for the Discovery member application published to the App Store. They work with other Discovery business units to deliver innovative solutions to all members.

    Within the Digital Channels system area, the iOS developer will work on the Discovery application together with Product Owners from various business units, Business Analysts, UX/UI designers & Content Teams, System Architect, and managers to understand the overall business need and the requirements, design the system solution using various approaches and technologies, implement the designed solution in the system with high quality source code.

    iOS developers will support the projects throughout the project lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, release, and post release support.

    iOS developers in the Digital Channels area must be able to technically support and maintain the deployed applications on dev, test and production environments.

    Intermediate iOS developers must have a competent understanding of:
