    Senior Editor - Halsbury's

    About the Role

    As a Senior Editor, you will support the UK team to deliver Halsbury’s Laws of England, a unique publication providing the only narrative statement of all the laws of England and Wales.

    Responsibilities

    • Reviewing collated content and copyediting and styling it for publication in Annual Abridgment, ensuring all content is of required quality
    • Producing and checking annual consolidated indexes and tables of cases/statutory material
    • Supporting preparation of monthly/annual cumulative supplements
    • Checking weekly online updates
    • Ensuring all editing follows house style and all material included is accurate by conducting legal research/monitoring legal developments
    • Collaborating closely with offshore production team/vendors/freelancers and dealing with day-to-day operational problems
    • Performing any other duties as reasonably requested

    Requirements

    • Experience in legal publishing and/or legal practice
    • Experience demonstrating a clear understanding of the way English and Welsh law develops (both the legislative process and common law) and of conducting independent legal research

    Software Engineer II

    BASIC FUNCTIONS: 

    This position performs moderate research, design, and software development assignments within a specific software functional area or product line.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 1+ years of Software Engineering experience
    • BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required

    TECHNICAL SKILLS:

    • Proficiency with data manipulation languages.
    • Ability to work with simple data models.

    About the Role

    As an Editor you will write headnotes for UK Law Report titles. You will be ensuring their accuracy, quality and timeliness, whilst collaborating and coordinating with other team members to meet publishing schedules.

    Responsibilities

    • Writing accurate headnotes for publication across the UK Law Reports portfolio, to requisite quality, house style, within agreed timelines
    • Flagging concerns around anonymization, reporting restrictions and any other matter that may impact the reportability of a judgment
    • Working collaboratively with the UK Editorial team to meet scheduling needs. Continue to meet editorial, stylistic and functional standards required by customers . Edit and style material in the relevant format, using templates where relevant.
    • Attending training sessions as required, taking onboard feedback for improvement and performing other duties as reasonably requested
    • Flagging risks to publishing schedules and respond effectively in a timely, professional manner, to queries from the UK Editorial team
    • Assisting in project work as appropriate to support new business initiatives, mentoring and supervision of less experienced staff where required

    Requirements

    • Solid experience in editorial/legal publishing or case summarization and showing interest in the law
    • Excellent verbal, editing skills and written English, the ability to understand, navigate and present complex legal materials
    • Good interpersonal skills, positive attitude and professionalism
    • Have good time management skills to meet rigid and frequent deadlines
    • Have workable knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint and an interest in learning new systems/technologies

    About the Role

    In this role, you will be helping to provide legal practical guidance and market insight. You will be reviewing documents, undertaking legal research, drafting content, and contributing to the smooth running of the LexisAsk and current awareness service.

    Responsibilities

    • Reviewing new and existing content for quality and legal accuracy, and making recommendations for process improvements
    • Monitoring of developments and inputting information to maintain trackers of consultations, cases and dates
    • Drafting practical guidance content (e.g. FAQs, practice notes, precedents, trackers, checklists, trackers etc.)
    • Collaborating with external authors regarding externally written content
    • Arranging and taking notes at Editorial Board and other meetings and liaising with attendees where required
    • Conducting legal research and liaising with subject matter experts within the Practical Guidance practice area teams
    • Drafting replies to queries from customers within a specified response time
    • Applying taxonomy to news items consistently and accurately
    • Supporting the development and implementation of initiatives to grow and improve the current awareness offering

    Requirements

    • Have a degree in Law, or equivalent experience
    • Demonstrate an eye for detail and a quality oriented focus. Be able to demonstrate excellent research and writing skills
    • Have a good understanding of legal issues, procedures and content types
    • Be able to think creatively, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work to strict deadlines
    • Be able to communicate influentially and effectively to a range of audiences, including senior stakeholders
