    Assistant Information Specialist

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    User Education

    • Continuously trains students on how to use Information Centre databases to enable them to research and access information required e.g. Ebscohost, Juta Law, Emerald, Sabinet etc.
    • Facilitates bi-annual and walk-in presentations as joint presenters on Student Information Literacy Sessions and Lecturer information briefings.

    Information Specialist Support

    • Drives The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) Information Centre policies and procedures and ensures adherence to policies.
    • Supports the Information Specialist in training the Information Centre Student Assistants.

    Information Centre Administration

    • Assists students and lecturers with research by searching for relevant articles and research material.
    • Provides guidance to students on academic writing.
    • Requests lecturing material from Publishers and sources additional material for Academic staff.
    • Monitors the performance of all functions of Information Centre automated Information Centre systems.
    • Updates new books on the Sirsi Dynix to ensure accurate record keeping.
    • Compiles journal content pages relevant to specific schools including newspaper articles.
    • Co-ordinates day-to-day book loans of students and lecturers (issuing, renewing and returning) and follows up on overdue loans by sending emails and calling Information Centre users.
    • Facilitates inter-Information Centre loans to enable availability of resources to support students and lecturers.

    Provision of Information Services

    • Facilitates academic support and training sessions on our digital learning platform.
    • Supports academic staff with research and sourcing academic material.
    • Conducts class visits and live interactive training sessions for students and lecturers.
    • Supports students on how to access, submit and reset passwords on Turnitin and Safe Assign.

    Information Centre Resources Marketing;

    • Designs interactive posters to market Information Centre resources on campus.
    • Arranges monthly displays according to the calendar set out by the Information Centre Manager.
    • Promotes Information Centre resources on various platforms using creative digital tools.
    • Markets teaching and learning resources to lecturers.
    • Presents information about teaching and learning resources and information services during information sessions.

     Competencies Required:

    Minimum Qualification Requirements:

    • Minimum of Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science. Must have professional registration with LIASA.

    Minimum Experience Requirements:

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an assistant librarian in a small to medium sized facility within an education environment and experience in academic compliance, functions / activities experience within a Higher Education environment.

    Lecturer: School Of Education

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Lecturing

    • Lecture on Education programmes (must lecture on an IIE qualification) across various modes of delivery where relevant.
    • Marking of assessments and feedback to students in subjects lectured. May be required to internally moderate assessments (scripts) that fall within their subject fields, where necessary across IIE sites of delivery.

    Lecturer Development and Support

    • Assist in lecturer development and support processes and procedures. This may include conducting peer reviews, facilitating workshops and one-on-one consultations.

    Student Development & Support

    • Championing/leading and managing academic development and support for a specific programme and its students.
    • Tracking student success and implementing support interventions where required. 

    Research & Scholarship

    • The incumbent is required to promote a culture of scholarship within their practice, discipline and campus/team and is also required to contribute towards IIE Varsity College achieving its annual research output targets.

    Competencies Required:

    • Superior communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage work and self proactively.
    • Able to demonstrate a proven track record of effective teaching in subject area based on a reflective practice.

    Deputy Head: Student Recruitment

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    School Presentation Strategy:

    • With the support of the Head: Student Recruitment, oversee the campus school presentation strategy. Drive presentation bookings for Gr9s, 11s & Matrics to ensure the team achieves presentation target.
    • Deliver engaging presentations at targeted schools, showcasing the benefits of our institution (the ability to deliver a great presentation to potential students is crucial).
    • Represent our brand at career expos and other stakeholder events. 

    Interview and Application Targets: 

    • Achieve individual targets for weekly, monthly and annual interviews by securing targeted appointments with prospective students.
    • Assist students with the online application process during consultations, securing applications on the spot.
    • Drive application acceptance and pre-registration fee payment.
    • Achieve individual targets for weekly, monthly and annual applications.

    Registration Target

    • Meet individual target for new student registrations.

    Management of Admissions (Sales):

    • Manage the Admissions Officers (Sales) and take responsibility for the admissions funnel with support of Head: Student Recruitment & Sales Operations Manager (Admissions & Distance).
    • Ensure sales team drive the admissions process with applicants and drive the correct activity throughout the cycle.
    • Oversee admissions approvals and ensure all admitted students comply with relevant admission requirements and legislation (entrance criteria, international student requirements etc).
    • Track and monitor conditional admissions, SLP and NQP registrations.

    Training:   

    • In conjunction with Head: Student Recruitment, as and when required, conduct training of new sales staff and admissions officers on consultation script, product knowledge, SIS and all sales processes to ensure they are ready for national sign-off.
    • Ongoing training and development of student recruitment team as identified and required.

    Support to Head: Student Recruitment

    • Accurate compilation of weekly reports for submission to Head: Student Recruitment to meet national report deadlines.
    • Work in conjunction with Marketing Assistants to ensure data integrity targets are achieved.
    • Utilise weekly reports to guide and support student recruitment team in achieving their weekly targets.
    • Support Head: Student Recruitment in day to day team management as required.
    • In absence of the Head: Student Recruitment, provide necessary support to the team and assume responsibility for all reporting and tasks as required by Campus Head and National.
    • Maintain professional relationships with schools and timeous attendance at presentations.
    • Ensure interaction with internal customers (direct team members, campus staff, Campus Senior Management Team) is positive and collaborative.
    • Manage relationships in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements.
    • Ensure and enable clear and open communication between the stakeholders and the brand.
    • Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders.
