AHRI’s research combines population, basic and translational, social, and clinical sciences to understand and intervene in the health and well-being of South African communities. AHRI works in partnership with local communities and South African academic, governmental, and other policy stakeholders and collaborates with over 60 institutions globally. AHRI prioritizes the training of the next generation of African scientists.
Overview of duties
1. Planning, coordination, and implementation of clinical activities for studies conducted under the Clinical Trials Unit
2. Ensure tracking of all study activities, patient recruitment, clinical care and follow-up.
3. Support relevant PIs to ensure that clinical research studies are compliant with DOH, GCP and SAHPRA requirements and running smooth
4. Liaise with key stakeholders, including DOH and internal stakeholders
5. Provide strategic support for the planning, administration and operations for the multiple clinical research studies
6. Participate in training and for personal research development
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
1. Completed medical degree (MBChB)
2. Completed Internship and Community service
3. Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
4. Computer Literacy (MS Office – Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
5. Valid Drivers’ Licence
6. Fluency in English

1. BSc in Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, any database specialist degree, or a closely related subject
OR
2. Any professional qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, computer science, or database development, with 10 years’ data management experience
Minimum Experience
1. At least 7 years related working experience of which at least 5 years must have been in the role of a Research Data Manager or Data Scientist
2. Experience in working with complex and longitudinal databases
3. Experience in working with scientists such as clinicians and epidemiologists in formulating data requirements and preparing data for statistical analyses
4. Substantial recent experience across the research data management life cycle, including database design, testing, EDC design, and liaison with study teams
5. Substantial experience in developing database specifications and building and testing databases, ideally using an Electronic Data Capture system such as Survey Solutions, Redcap, OpenClinica or similar
6. Experience in developing data management plans and other research documentation and procedures such as SOPs
7. Experience with database development languages and software such as SQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL etc.
8. Experience in query management and data validation
9. Good knowledge of GCP requirements and all aspects of information governance and related legislation for research
10. Experience of supervising the work of junior colleagues
