    Tax Paralegal

    Responsibilities:

    There are three main components of the LexisNexis offering which this role will contribute to:

    • current awareness service— we provide legal updates and analysis to our core online product, Lexis+. We coordinate our tax current awareness service with another LexisNexis brand, Tolley, and this role would also therefore see close interaction with tax specialists in the Tolley business.
    • core content in Lexis+— Lexis+ provides legal practical guidance which a busy front-line practitioner can read and digest quickly and easily.
    • LexisAsk service— Lexis+ customers can submit queries in relation to any of the practice areas we cover.

    Current awareness

    • Helping to deliver our current awareness offering by:
    • monitoring several sources to ensure that customers of Lexis+ Tax and Tolley are kept up-to-date with developments in tax-related litigation, such as tribunal decisions and court hearing dates
    • analysing and summarising changes made by HMRC to its numerous Manuals
    • curating daily news alerts to ensure that they provide high-level updates to customers
    • working with the PSLs to commission and publish externally authored news analysis items on relevant tax developments
    • converting case summaries provided by other parts of the wider LexisNexis business for publication on the Lexis+ product
    • applying taxonomy to news items consistently and accurately

    Core content

    • Maintaining and updating the Lexis+ Tax team’s key trackers, which seek to provide customers with the status of tax-related cases, consultations, Bills, HMRC Manuals and other developments
    • Working closely with the Lexis+ Tax team and the Content Acquisition team to commission and draft practical guidance.
    • Having input into the development of technical solutions with our product teams, to ensure that we are delivering guidance, current awareness and LexisAsk in the most efficient way possible

    LexisAsk

    • Helping to respond to LexisAsk queries by:
    • conducting legal research and liaising with subject matter experts within the Lexis+ Tax team
    • drafting replies to queries from customers within a specified response time
    • Compiling a bank of ‘Q&A’ style documents for publication in the Lexis+ Tax content, adhering to the defined style guidelines.

    Requirements: 

    • Admitted attorney with excellent academic qualifications, legal research and writing skills
    • Exposure to business tax law, in particular domestic or international tax implications for corporates and partnerships, tax issues on transactional arrangements and/or tax litigation
    • Tax certifications highly advantageous
