    Education Consultant - Department for Education Innovation

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Education Consultant will be required to work on and contribute to Education Innovation initiatives, as well as in the designated Faculty with regards to:

    • providing strategic leadership and change management for curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment to advance teaching and learning in the faculty;
    • collaborating with staff in Education Innovation and the designated Faculty to create, implement, monitor and evaluate curriculum, teaching, assessment and learning platforms, systems and policies for the University as they affect hybrid teaching and learning, particularly in contact environments;
    • engaging directly and building relationships with Faculties, Departments, Teaching and Learning Committees and individual academics;
    • providing initial and continuing professional development for curriculum development, teaching and assessment, as well as tutoring;
    • conducting research as an individual, in a community of practice or in collaboration with academics to stay abreast of trends in all aspects of academic development, as well as contributing to the development of knowledge in these fields through the scholarship of teaching and learning; and
    • providing support to the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences by promoting a culture of continuous change, improvement and innovation.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant Master’s degree;
    • Preference will be given to qualifying candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education Studies or Academic Development.

    Experience:

    • Five (5) years of higher education or training-related experience;
    • Three (3 )years’ experience in institutional initiatives for the academic development of students and lecturers;
    • Expertise in blended and online learning;
    • Experience in using the affordances of technology to promote teaching and learning;
    • Proven experience in the development and application of innovative teaching and learning strategies;
    • Experience in working with a Learning Management System.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Leading change and general project management capabilities;
    • Experience in education practice and education technology;
    • Insight into the functioning and structures of a faculty;
    • Experience in education consultancy in higher education and project management;
    • Language proficiency and negotiation skills;
    • Experience in coordinating and facilitating training intervention and rendering support to academic staff;
    • Expertise in identifying, analysing, planning and supporting lecturers with regard to possibilities of flexi-learning environments;
    • Up-to-date knowledge of current trends and future scenarios for higher education with consideration given to important innovations, including the potential of technology changes for teaching, learning and assessment;
    • Thorough insight into educational theories, educational processes in higher education.

    Senior Coordinator: Library Technical Services

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Providing input in tactical or strategic decision-making related to the acquisition, cataloguing, and/or maintenance of information resources;
    • Working closely with the acquisitions team and cataloguers to ensure that new acquisitions or other items are properly processed and integrated into the library's physical collections;
    • Managing collections (printed and electronic information resources) according to relevant policies and procedures;
    • Responsible for Human Resource Management activities for all reporting staff (e.g. approval of leave, performance management, training, job descriptions) as contracted
    • Ensuring implementation of Library strategies in the workflows;
    • Managing all interfaces with other stakeholders, clients, faculties, and units;
    • Ensuring optimal workflow and identification and implementation of best practice;
    • Managing and optimize the physical facilities of the unit;
    • Ensuring the throughput of relevant information to the Library strategic plan;
    • Responsible for effective communication on collections-related matters to all relevant internal and external stakeholders;
    • Developing and managing collections-related projects (including plans, timelines, and budgets), and establish project goals, objectives, and communication plans;
    • Facilitating the training of staff in new developments, ensure regular updates, and encourage effective usage of technology and library systems, where needed.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A four-year library degree e.g. Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree (B.Bibl.) or Bachelor of Information Science (BIS) plus Postgraduate Diploma in Library Information Science/Studies (PG Dip. LIS) or Bachelor of Information Honors (B.Inf (Hons)); plus four years’ Technical Services experience in an academic library;

    OR

    • A three-year library degree (e.g. Bachelor of Information Science (BIS)); plus five years’ Technical Services experience in an academic library.

    AND

    • Expert knowledge of Library Technical Services work processes, environment and industry.

    Lecturer in Social Work ( Practice)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will be required to:

    • Teach and assess at undergraduate level;
    • Organise undergraduate practice modules;
    • Liaise with field organisations on practice and work integrated learning placements;   
    • Supervise undergraduate students in social work practice;
    • Facilitate professional and ethical conduct in practice and work integrated learning;
    • Initiate and sustain research outputs in specialised field(s);
    • Develop and organise under-graduate curricula/modules as required;
    • Involvement in department and faculty committees as required;
    • Participate in the Department’s strategic initiatives related to teaching, research and community engagement.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A Master’s degree in social work or extensive experience in supervising social work students in a specialised field;
    • Extended generic practice experience;
    • Supervision experience in social work practice;
    • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

    RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS:

    • Supervision experience of student social work students;
    • Extended generic practice experience and experience in one or more specialised fields.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Appropriate language and communication skills;

    Assistant Accountant

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

    • Assisting sponsors with Memorandums of Agreement and with the following:
    • Enquiries;
    • Accounts;
    • Progress reports (academic records);
    • Requesting invoices for sponsors from the Debtors Division;
    • Refunding sponsor’s unspent funds due to plan cancellations, drop of courses and or meals not taken; Allocating bursaries to accounts receivable according to type of donor (government provincial municipalities, sundries);
    • Awarding and disbursing bursaries to student accounts;
    • Scheduling monthly payments for undergraduate & postgraduates (allowances, meals and rent, etc);
    • Receiving completed disbursement forms and supporting documents and executing quality control;
    • Assisting with registration of students at the beginning of the year;
    • Assisting with system testing and development in PeopleSoft when necessary;
    • Performing quality control of tuition levies;
    • Paying the awards over to the student accounts;
    • Filing all bursary documentation (letters, awarding docs and docs regarding payment to sponsors);
    • Approving disbursement requests as per disbursement policy;
    • Executing ad-hoc tasks delegated by the Division management;
    • Dealing with enquiries made by the CSC/satellite campuses, students and stakeholders;
    • Communicating to students and stakeholders via e-mail, sms and letters; Preparing monthly statistics and reports for the manager of the Division.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Diploma or equivalent with Accounting as a subject.
    • Three years’ experience in financial administration.
