Risk Analyst at Rand Mutual

Reporting to the Risk Manager the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and operationalisation of the enterprise risk management framework while working closely with the actuarial, finance and other functional areas within the business.

Qualifications and Experience required:

• Relevant B Com Degree (i.e. Risk and Insurance or Accounting/Auditing)
• 2 - 5yrs risk management experience in the financial services sector, preferably in or with exposure to a short-term insurance or a long-term insurance environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Administration of the EWRM (Enterprise –wide Risk Management) function including coordinating risk assessment, collating information regarding risks and controls, managing the EWRM database and producing risk management reports;
• Ability to run risk workshops independently.
• Project management of various ad-hoc projects pertaining to governance and risk management;
• Administration of the risk management system used for risk management, compliance management, control self-assessment and surveys.
• Assist in the development of and manage processes to identify and evaluate business areas' risks and risk and control self-assessments.
• Manage the implementation of all aspects of the risk function, including implementation of processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report risks.
• Administer the loss incidents systems in accordance with policies and methodologies
• Assist in developing a checklist of all ERM Policies and documents and monitor the implementation thereof.
• Highlight areas of constraints, areas of improvement and report recommendation to management
• Communicate and facilitate the use of appropriate risk management methodologies, tools and techniques
• Develop training materials for the identification and assessment of risks
• Administer risk analysis projects and ensure that all risks are addressed
• Develop and ensure maintenance of risk register
• Coordination with risk champions within the business for escalation and reporting of risks and Loss Data Collection (LDC)
• Facilitate assessment and risk Reporting for the Risk Committee in terms of: Risk Appetites measures and Key Risk Indicators

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies required:

• Knowledge of any of the well-known Enterprise Risk Management frameworks (COSO, ISO 31000 etc.)
• Basic understanding of Solvency Assessment & Management (SAM).
• Basic understanding or exposure to basic quantitative risk management concepts, i.e. Insurance Risks; Market Risks; Credit Risks and Operational Risks
• Advanced knowledge of  Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Ability to analyse and understand complex structures.
• Ability to successfully run risk workshops
