    Journalist - JHB

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Write excellent, factually correct articles for the title’s print magazine and website;
    • Do interviews and research for articles and features to be published in print and/or online;
    • Adhere to strict content deadlines for print and digital platforms;
    • Generate ideas for exclusive and original articles for print and digital platforms;
    • Adhere to the title's quality, style and content standards;
    • Generate and liaise with a network of contacts to identify story ideas and produce quality content;

    The applicant will need to have the following qualifications, experience, skills and characteristics:

    Senior Sub-Editor

    Responsibilities include:

    • Editing copy, with sufficient knowledge to rewrite it in a meaningful way and shorten it, if necessary;
    • Check correctness of facts, spelling and grammar;
    • Write good captions and headings that are both attention-grabbing and linguistically and factually correct;
    • Make sure that copy follows the publication's specific style in terms of grammar, language usage, and preferred spellings;
    • Liaise with other sub-editors, reporters, news and homepage editors to ensure flow and quality of news stories; and
    • Stay informed about the latest language rules as contained in the language style guides.

    The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, languages, communication, media studies or the humanities;
    • Excellent language and writing skills in Afrikaans and experience in a digital news environment;
    • Eight to ten years of relevant journalism experience would be a strong recommendation;
    • A sense of and interest in news and current affairs;
    • Extensive general knowledge;
