Employee Relations & Transformation Manager at BAT

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the ER & Transformation Manager is to:

• To provide tactic labor relations guidance and coordinate the execution of the company’s ER strategy in order to create a diverse, capable workforce to achieve the company’s BBBEE goals and enhance business success.
• To support the development of an SA ER strategy that ensures a sound labour relations environment and enable an engaging workplace
• To be the “go-to” person on any ER cases and stablish a proactive management of Employee Relations that drives an environment of corrective action and enhanced ownership from Line managers

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

Employee Relations

• Stays abreast of local legislation and ER best practices as to align internal organisational practices;
• Draft and review the ER policy on issues include working environement, conditions of employment, disability cases, absence management and grievance procedures
• Implements (advises leadership & employees) the employee relations plan and applies the policy & procedures consistently across the function;
• Represents the company at the Bargaining Council and at the CCMA
• Develops and conducts shopfloor climate monitoring and advices management accordingly
• Participates in all the industry bodies i.e. Department of Labour, Unions, Labour Court, etc.
• Assists the HR Director/HRBP’s  in driving any ER related project work
• Monitors that correct ER procedures adhered too at hearings, performance feedback sessions, grievances, incapacities, etc.
• Monitors the employee relations agreements and closes gaps where deviations / anomalies exist
• Monitors adherence to application of labour legislation, conditions of employment and other related industrial relations matters
• Constantly advises and upskills the local HR team and line managers on any ER matters.

Sustainability

• Supports the design of a Sustainability Strategy inclusive of the EE Plan, BBBEE scorecard and CSR plan (Corporate & Social Responsibility)
• Owns the Sustainability implementation umbrella:
• Trains leadership, EE Committee and Sustainability Committee
• Conducts EE meetings as prescribed by the EEA
• Identifies barriers to implementing EE goals and initiatives
• Tracks data and reporting (info received)
• Suggests ways forwards

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Degree + Hons in Human Resource Management/ Labour Relations /LLB or related qualification
• Minimum 4-5 years experience in labour relations, employment equity and sustainability
• Experience dealing with different levels of management and an unionised environment
• Experience in leading of CCMA/Bargaining Council Arbitration case experience
• DOL & Union  exposure
• Scenario planning and good influence and gravitas
• Good interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills (good use of Excel & Office tools)
• Linguistic proficiency both written and verbal
• Good Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
• LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA, Main Agreement
