Supervising dog handlers to ensure that they are performing their jobs effectively
Training staff members in proper dog handling techniques and care procedures
Monitoring and record keeping of animals housed in the kennel
Maintaining a record of all animals housed in the kennel facility or shelter and their current status
Ensuring that all kennel staff members are complying with regulations regarding animal care and safety
Create and implement specially designed care programs based on K9-specific requirements.
Verify that implemented programs are effective and modify them where necessary.
Ensure that all the required logistical, care, maintenance and well-being requirements for the dogs and relevant facilities are adhered to.
Ensure effective K9 operational support to security operations.
Ensure that effective K9 operational plans are developed and implemented.
Ensure ongoing specialist security/law enforcement K9 training is done.
Ensure highest fitness levels are adhered to.
Requirements
Grade 12 Certificate
Degree/Diploma in policing, security or military studies will be advantageous.
Working knowledge of the Firearms Act and must have firearm competency for business purposes (can be completed after being appointed if currently employed in government security structures).
Operational background/training in SAPS/SANDF will be advantageous.
Grade A PSIRA accreditation (if not then must be in place within 1 month of employment).
Relevant specialist security/law enforcement K9 handler qualifications are required.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in private security/law enforcement.
Must be able to communicate in English (must be able to speak, read and write).
Successfully undergo polygraph examination before employment and on a regular basis.
