    Marketing Analytics Specialist

    Key Purpose

    Based in the Discovery Digital Marketing team, the Marketing Analytics Specialist is a Data Scientist who will perform data-related and analytical functions. This role will be responsible for fulfilling and iterating the Marketing Analytics roadmap, embedding a culture of data-driven decisions. While you will be expected to be hands-on as a data scientist, we will also expect you to derive meaningful insights from analysis and influence stakeholders.  

    This is a highly visible position, impacting the business strategically and operationally. You will work with stakeholders from across the business (Marketing, IT, Data Science and operational teams). 

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:

    1. Marketing Analytics Dashboards and new initiatives 

     

    • At Discovery, we measure the full customer lifecycle, from awareness to retention.  

    • You will be required to produce regular dashboards, conduct ad hoc analysis and occasionally oversee research projects. 

    • You should be adept at deriving actionable insights and presenting your analysis to business stakeholders.   

     

    1. Play a support and business continuity role in the data integrity management for all direct electronic marketing, as well as for the marketing automation solution.  

    • This encompasses ensuring that the data underlying our campaigns is correct, meets business rules as well as privacy and consent compliance.  

    • Manage the data integrity of the Marketing Automation solution, ensuring that data attributes are mapped correctly to, and are in sync with, the relevant information source systems. 

    • Work closely with domain experts to facilitate data quality examinations. 

    • This function has a direct impact on the reputation the Company maintains in a highly competitive marketplace and will require the exercise of independent judgment. 

    Competencies and experience

    • Software programs – 2-3 years or more experience with statistical packages (Excel, SQL) is a must. 

    • Technical expertise – you will work with statistical packages and programming codes (e.g. Python, R or SPSS), must be technically adept and able to work with data models and data mining software. 

    • Experience with BI reporting (e.g. Power BI and Google Data Studio). 

    • The following will be an advantage: Experience with building predictive models; familiarity with Marketing Automation tools such as SalesForce or SAP Marketing; experience with programming languages such as XML, Javascript or ETL frameworks. 

    • Analytical abilities – you will work with large and often complex data sets, so you’ll need strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate and interpret trends and important information. 

    • Interpersonal skills – this role involves working with different departments and as part of a team, so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are important.  

    • Problem-solving skills – identifying issues or ways to improve systems that are already in place is a key job function, so you’ll need to be a critical thinker who can successfully troubleshoot and solve problems. 

    • This role will require you to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously. Time management and the ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment are must-have skills. 

    Education

    • Honours or Master’s degree in either Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science
