    QA and QC Manager

    Job Description    
    To lead a high-performance lab team to ensure that the quality of finished products comply with specifications and that the site remains GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative standards) compliant.

    Qualification Requirements    

    • Rheology of Maize - Essential
    • GFSI and FSSC 22000 standards and requirements - Essential
    • Milling and Baking Processes - Desirable
    • Internal and External Auditing - Essential

    Experience Requirements    

    • Degree/diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Chemistry
    • FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor Certification – Essential
    • Knowledge of the milling process - Desirable
    • Six Sigma Champion – Desirable
    • Lab supervisor from Grain Milling industry with 3 - 5 years’ experience

    Key Outputs    

    • To meet customer requirements and standards by ensure finished products meet required specification through:
    • Implementing Good Laboratory practices to ensure accuracy of product analysis.
    • Leading investigations of customer complaints with relevant site team members and ensure corrective and preventative action on the same
    • Ensure that customers being supplied from that site - have signed specification
    • Testing competitor products for developments and benchmarking
    • Support laboratory Supervisor to ensure smooth operations
    • To ensure the site remains GFSI compliant by:
    • Planning and organising internal site audits as per Premier standard
    • Lead external Food safety system audits
    • Maintaining food safety standards through regular training and ensuring all preparations are done for the internal and external audits
    • Enablement and training teams on the requirements of food safety standards and updates • Maintain site food safety documentation management system
    • Performance evaluation and trending of FSMS
    • Ensure high performance culture in the quality team by:
    1. building and motivating capability through competency-based selection
    2. training and development, coaching, mentoring, performance management
    3. effective communications
    4. leading and participating in Invocoms and meetings as needed
    5. ensuring good discipline and accountability
    6. establishing good working relationships with union representatives
    7. ensuring a conducive and safe working environment according to the Premier way.
    • Ensure efficient stakeholder management by:
    • Managing external service providers e.g. Pest control, Hygiene and Calibration services
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure continuous operations in the value chain.
    • Guiding management decision through analysing quality related trend reports.
    • To ensure full statutory and regulatory compliance to all health and safety and food safety requirements in line with Premier standards and SOP’s by ensuring training of relevant personnel, audits and corrective action of all findings in collaboration with the risk function.
    • To ensure continuous improvement of processes and function through:
    • Ensuring a culture of learning and continuous improvement in the Invocom
    • Perform root cause analysis when needed and ensure corrective action with relevant stakeholders
    • Driving continuous improvement on site by doing internal and external benchmarking from time to time.
    • To ensure optimal laboratory asset management through:
    • Implementation of timeous corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with company SOPs and maintenance system.
    • Ensuring that all instrument maintenance is done timeously, correctly and at the correct cost.
    • Ensure instruments are handled with the necessary care.
    • Control issue of lab chemicals, cleaning equipment and PPE.
