Systems Developer (C5) at merSETA

Purpose 

• The incumbent will be responsible conducting system reviews, analysis and development of various IT systems. He/she will be responsible for planning, designing and testing installations to support various internal applications and systems of the organisation.

Duties: 

• The duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Researching, designing, implementing, and managing software programs
• Testing and evaluating new programs
• Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications
• Writing and implementing efficient code
• Determining operational practicality
• Developing quality assurance procedures
• Deploying software tools, processes, and metrics
• Maintaining and upgrading existing systems
• Training users
• Working closely with other developers, UX designers, business and systems analysts
• Design, develop and implement unit and scenario testing for existing code base and for new functionality under development

Qualities, experience, knowledge and skills required:

• NQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology/ Information Systems / Computer Science or related field
• 5 years of experience of System Development work in a JAVA-based information systems including experience as an applications programmer on large-scale database management systems
• Working knowledge of object-oriented design and development skills as well as an understanding of Web Services protocols such as REST, SOAP and API design for extensibility and portability is essential
• Understanding of emerging web and mobile development models including high scalability projects involving cloud-based infrastructure design and implementation as well as Service (SaaS) models is necessary
• Ability to use version control software such compliant with GIT standards and experience in developing complex software to satisfy design
