In South Africa ABB has its head office, logistics and manufacturing centre at Longmeadow, Johannesburg. At these premises ABB has several manufacturing operations including medium voltage switchgear, high voltage protection, rectifiers and a robotics programming and servicing centre. At its Alrode, Johannesburg, premises ABB has an AC machines factory that manufacturers medium voltage electric motors for local and export markets. ABB has a strong presence in the Southern Africa region with engineering and sales offices in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
ABB manufactures a range of power and automation products in Egypt to serve the rising local demand for increased electrical infrastructure. Our project teams in engineering centres across North Africa are hard at work designing and delivering a range of complex solutions from substations to serve new cities, oil and gas electrification, to electrical infrastructure for some of the most exciting new property developments globally.
We offer complete solutions to utilities, including electrical power infrastructure for transmission and distribution networks and associated products and systems, such as substations, reactive power compensation, utilities automation (including protection, control and SCADA), water EPC contracts and power plant automation. On the industries side, we offer systems, products and services in the areas of pulp and paper, mining, metals and minerals, cement, chemicals and petrochemicals as well as manufacturing and customer industries.
Our project capabilities include a comprehensive offering from feasibility studies, project management and design to construction, installation, commissioning and customer training. All offerings are supported by field maintenance and asset performance services. In South Africa, the group has a strong local manufacturing capability with three manufacturing sites around the country.
