    Lecturer

    • This Lecturer position will be appointed under the auspices of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) funded by the Department of Higher Education & Training. This full-time permanent position is open to South Africans, and priority will be accorded to those aged 40 years or younger. The appointment will be made in terms of the purposes expressed in the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF).

    Requirements for the job:

    • MBCHB degree
    • Demonstrated experience/interest in the field of forensic medicine.
    • Registration with the HPCSA.
    • Master’s degree in a relevant field to demonstrate academic aptitude with an overall 70% average mark.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in higher education curriculum design and implementation, teaching, learning, assessment & program evaluation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Appropriately manage logistical requirements of forensic undergraduate courses. This will involve the coordination of lecturers, administrative staff, timetables, and venue bookings for these courses.
    • As course convener need to adhere to all the requirements of the MBChB programme, including attendance of meetings as required.
    • Plan, develop and align forensic course to curriculum including alignment of the learning outcomes, course content, activities, and assessment practices with institutional policies and international educational standards and evidence.
    • Manage the overall course within the aligned blueprint.
    • Co-ordinate the entire process related to assessment activities, timeous feedback, moderation and involvement with institutional requirements related to this in the MBChB curriculum such as attending FEC meetings.
    • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback, implementing improvements according to accreditation guidelines.
    • Effectively manage your own work effort within the guidelines established by your contract, the staff handbook, and your line manager.
    • Provide support and pastoral care for students to ensure that all issues are dealt within a timely, sympathetic, and effective manner.
    • Be responsible for the database management associated with teaching, learning and assessment within the Learner Management Systems.
    • Close liaison with course administrator, programme convener and HODiv/HOD; quality check all processes.
    • Contribute and participate in the faculty curriculum development in a transformative and collaborating manner, including attendance of workshops or forum or meetings as required.
    • Involvement within UCT includes networking and collaboration within department and faculty but also institutional where possible.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor

    Requirements at Lecturer Level:

    • A PhD in Physics, or equivalent;

    Lecturer: Clinical Psychology

    • The main purpose of this post is thus the provision of teaching, training and education in psychological skills and knowledge to students and associated activities in the Faculty of Health Sciences in line with the objective of the Division of Psychotherapy

    Associate Professor/Professor in Urban Studies

    • The Associate Professor or Professor in Urban Studies will be affiliated with both institutions but will be based at the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town. They will undertake up to three visits per year to the University of Basel (Switzerland) to teach on the Masters in Critical Urbanisms and offer related support to wider research and teaching endeavors at the University of Basel. The Associate Professor or Professor is also expected to be the pedagogical lead for Critical Urbanisms students who undertake the semester study abroad track at the ACC and to teach on other Masters programmes at the ACC, such as the Masters in Southern Urbanism.

    Web Governance Officer (Contract)

    Key requirements

    Director: Careers Service

    • The Director will be expected to work closely with the Dean and Senior Management of CHED as well as senior management of the university to ensure that the goals and purpose of the service are aligned to and support the university’s institutional priorities. The incumbent will need to demonstrate this connection to the work of CHED in academic development and student support through practices and programmes, and ensure careers service visibility, branding, social media coverage and marketing, and have acumen for business development within the careers service industry, its stakeholder network and eco-system. The Director will champion the employment, employability, and entrepreneurship agenda to ensure that UCT students, graduates and alumni develop the graduate attributes and experiences to maximize their own potential and their contribution to the local and global community in which they will work.

    Requirements:

    • Post-graduate qualification at NQF 8 level in social science or business-related degree
    • At least 10-years’ work experience in senior leadership and management, 5-years of which must be in the higher education (HE) environment and/or careers or business management.
    • Experience and evidence of shaping, implementing and interpretating a vision for the career service agenda in the faculty, at UCT and nationally.
    • Use of information management systems and data analytics to inform strategic direction and interventions.
    • Evidence of strategic and collegial partnerships, collaborations with faculty, students, alumni, employers, and stakeholders at all levels

    Consortium Manager

    • The main purpose of the Consortium Manager Position is to lead the CMU, under the direction of the PALM-TREEs project PIs. The incumbent will need to develop and maintain excellent, efficient, robust, viable and friendly management, finance, staffing, information, and administrative system with the project members, post-docs, administrative and finance staff, and institutional contacts with the funding agencies. The role includes all aspects of senior level consortium management, including oversight of research activities with the PIs, financial reporting with financial officers, monitoring and evaluation with the PIs and drafting reports for funders, ensuring project deliverables and activities from all project partners are on track, organizational and human resources management and information management.

    • A Masters degree in a field relevant to physical or human geography / environmental science or management / atmospheric science / oceanography / climate science / climate change vulnerability, impacts and adaptation / developmental or social science field.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in the research or science administration field, with sound numerical skills and including appropriate accounting/finance experience, demonstrating a broad knowledge, and understanding of financial and management accounting principles, with proven analytical and interpretive abilities.

    Junior Research Fellow

    Requirements for the position:

    • A PhD specializing in Artificial Intelligence or a related area.
    • A research track record including a demonstrated ability for independent research and publications in high-quality conference proceedings and/or journals.
    • At least 2 years’ experience as a postdoctoral research fellow in Artificial Intelligence or a related area. Candidates without two years of postdoctoral experience, but meeting the other two requirements, may be considered.
