Job Purpose:
- Co-ordinates and controls ke technical structural engineering design procedures and applications associated with the provision of support, advice and guidance, formulation and development and or draughting of plans, proposals and designs for complex forms of complete structures.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Supports, and provides technical advice/information on principles and applications associated with design, draughting and contract management of complex structural engineering requirements.
- Applies principles and techniques associated with the development of complex technical designs.
- Disseminates information on technical aspects and provides report detailing interventions and outcomes.
- Coordinates sequences associated with the preparation collation of contract documentation and/or evaluating tender applications.
- Coordinates and controls the implementation/ outcomes of complex structural engineering contracts.
Essential Requirements:
- Registration as a Professional Technician (Pr. Techni.) with Engineering Council of South Africa.
- Plus Internal Assessment.
- Valid motor vehicle drivers licence (Code B or EB).
- 5 Years relevant post qualification experience.
Work sample and/or psychometric tests may be undertaken as part of the selection process.

- Provide support to the Chief Engineer (Communication Networks) by effectively researching and investigating, testing, designing, planning and commissioning of the Communication Networks of EThekwini Electricity, which relate to new and broadly available and unavailable technical practices.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Compiles and updates basic and complex specifications and standards of broadly available and unavailable technical systems within the Communication Network.
- Compiles and adjudicates basic and complex tenders relating to broadly available and unavailable technical aspects of the fibre, radio and wireless, data, copper and other media systems of the Communication Network.
- Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the backbone of the Fibre Optic Network of the Communications Network.
- Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the customer connections, which are directly connected to the backbone of the Fibre Optic Network of the Communication Network.
- Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Radio and Wireless Network of the Communications Network and customer connections to it. Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Technical Data Network and customer connections to it.
- Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Copper Pilot Network of the Communication Network and customer connections.
- Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to other identified communication systems of the Communication Network and other customer connections. Provides specialised software and hardware tools required to undertake troubleshooting and monitoring of the operation of the communication system.
- Monitors the performance and utilisation of the existing fibre, copper, data, radio and wireless and other media systems of the communication networks.
- Manages and maintains central computerised technical records and drawings relating to the communication networks, customer connections and the division.
- Initiates the acquisition of goods, materials and services.
- Accepts appointment in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) and regulations.
- Ensures compliance with safety rules as stipulated in Chapter 25 of the Town Clerk's Standing Orders.
Essential Requirements:
- B.Sc. Engineering (Electronic) Degree from a university accredited by the Council on Higher Education.
- Pass a proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of electrical and communication theory at the level of an Engineer.
- Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
- Must be in possession of a First Aid Certificate or obtain one within 6 months of the date of appointment.
- 2 Years of relevant experience.
- Computer Literacy.

- Ensures compliance with the safety rules, as stipulated in Chapter 25 of the Town Clerk's Standing Orders. Performance of duties will require the application of a sound specialist knowledge and innovation of new and broadly available and unavailable technical systems used.
- It will include performing the complex components more efficiently and effectively than at the Engineer level. Tasks shall be carried out at a standard appropriate for a Professional Engineer.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree (Electronic Engineering) obtained through an accredited Further Education and Training Institute.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
- Pass a proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of electrical and communication theory at the level of a Professional Engineer.
- Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
- Must be in possession of a First Aid Certificate or obtain one within 6 months of the date of appointment.
- 3 Years of relevant experience.
- Computer Literacy.
