    Continuous Improvement Manager

    Job Responsibilities

    Drive Productivity Improvement

    • Responsible for spearheading efficiency improvement efforts, following Rich Manufacturing System (RMS) guidelines and priorities.
    • Measure and report on efficiency improvement projects against pre-defined annual targets
    • Coach associates in identifying and eliminating waste utilization action plans, route cause analysis and process improvement teams.
    • Create and refine processes for collecting and reporting process and operating metrics.
    • Ensure pertinent metrics are widely communicated and thoroughly understood throughout the plant through TPM boards
    • Ensure process improvements are achieved and sustained.
    • Lead discussions and train Associates on appropriate use of performance data and continuous improvement tools such as 5 Whys, Pareto Charts, Lean tools, Fishbone – cause and effect diagrams etc.
    • Measure plant performance and investigate root causes of performance problems.
    • Ensure that pertinent operating procedures and training programs exist and are maintained and continuously updated and standardized with best practices.
    • Develop SOPs and PWIs, process controls, training documents and preventative maintenance schedules of new plants and/or equipment as they are commissioned in manufacturing

    Drive Cost Reduction Projects

    • Identify cost reduction projects across all Department and develop Project Plans to ensure timely completion.
    • Review daily Usage Variance reports (Variable Costs) to identify opportunities to losses
    • Conduct Mass-Balance on all Manufacturing processes to determine design losses and work with Finance Team to update BOM’s
    • Conduct Value Steam Mapping to identify and eliminate non-value adding activities
    • Identify Automation opportunities to reduce reliance on Manual Labour.
    • Weekly / Monthly updating of Cost Reduction Trackers

    New Product / Project Management

    • Assist in start-up and commissioning of new equipment and lines
    • Assist and advise on any required changes to maintenance programs, frequency and shutdowns
    • Stand in for plant production managers in their absence as and when required

    Key Deliverables

    • Weekly report of waste savings
    • Compile / Update relevant Dashboards
    • Weekly report of plant performance metrics, root cause analysis and subsequent action priorities
    • Weekly activity report indicating current projects, which PWIs were created, training which was conducted, and machine improvements were completed
    • Create and maintain the equipment and process “cheat sheet” for the entire plant
    • Weekly update on TPM Progress per Department

    Minimum requirements

    • 5 – 7 years FMCG experience
    • National Diploma, B-Tech or BSC Industrial Engineering.
    • Tertiary qualification in Production/Operations Management or equivalent unless technically qualified as stated above
    • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing Processes and Systems.
    • Solid grasp of TPM implementation.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
    • Solid grasp of manufacturing processes and systems.
    • Proficient using MS Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
    • Project Management experience would be advantageous.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods of time performing tasks requiring analytical and logical thinking
    • Ability to stand for extended times to facilitate Lean process improvement activities
    • Ability to utilize a personal computer to identify and resolve process issues
    • Ability to clearly communicate business process improvement concepts in writing or orally.

    SAP Production Analyst

    The Role

    • Consolidate daily usage of raw materials & packaging across all Production Departments. Filing of relevant documentation to ensure traceability is maintained.
    • Execute daily consumptions for closed production orders.
    • Execute consumptions for WIP production orders to enable accurate reconciliation & functionality for the MRP process.
    • Analyse all closed production orders for exceptions & raise queries with respective production managers.
    • Draw usage variance reports for closed production orders & circulate to production & finance team. This included trending of components that show repeated losses.
    • Facilitate BOM changes to ensure accuracy of product costing
    • Audit shop floor controls relating to daily movement of stock and finished product (system movement to correspond to physical movement)
    • Support CI team during Mass Balance exercises to ensure correct losses are built into BOM.
    • Annual review of standard losses and identify opportunities for improvement / cost reduction.
    • Review all COGI Transactions to assess root cause. Work with Production Managers to eliminate challenges
    • Training of Production Team for shop floor movement of stock using the Scanners.
    • Conduct monthly health check on system hardware (scanner / docking station) to ensure 100% availability.
    • Control system hardware from an Asset Management perspective. Coordinate repairs with external 3rd parties where required.
    • Represent Production Team at the monthly service review with 3rd party service provider. Escalate challenges or opportunities for improvement

    Key Deliverables

    Shift Production Supervisor

    Manage Production Processes

    • Ensure products packed on shift meet the necessary quality specifications.
    • Ensure strict adherence to the Master Cleaning Schedule and that associates are following the prescribed cleaning SOP’s
    • Execute tactical planning and scheduling to meet packaging timelines according to systemized production schedule as well as working closely with the Planning department.
    • Track usage variances (on shift) on key packaging components and bulk raw materials.
    • Ensure GMP, FSSC 22 000 & ISO standards are maintained at all times by reviewing and updating relevant Risk Assessments.
    • Ensure 6 S methodology is maintained and take corrective action when non-compliances are noted.
    • Oversee line opening, clearance and closing and final approval of Master Packaging and Processing Documents.
    • Address all process non-conformances with the necessary corrective and preventative actions.
    • Completion of Shift Production Reports
    • Ensure adequate preparation for incoming shift (raw materials, batch preparation and packaging).
    • Ensure compliance to SAP Production Processes (stock receipt, stock transfer, usage consumptions & closing orders)

    Manage/Lead Team

    • Lead daily / shift team meetings (Level 1)
    • Set objectives and manage performance of team members.
    • Ensure optimal utilization of staff across multiple lines (dynamic resourcing).
    • Apply consistent discipline and fairness to direct reports.
    • Train and develop staff (multi-skilling and succession planning).
    • Conduct daily team meetings and ensure effective communication to all.
    • Liaise and communicate with management from other departments.
    • Control working hours and overtime for associates on shift.
    • Resolve conflict within the team.

    Manage Line Productivity

    • Improve line productivity by reviewing daily production data and formulating action plans to improve performance.
    • Eliminate or reduce unplanned stops through close collaboration with Quality and Engineering Team’s.
    • Manage variable cost by reducing line scrap/waste.
    • Conduct RCA’s (Root Cause Analysis) for recurring stoppages and implement the necessary preventative actions to eliminate recurrence.
    • Lead TPM process for shift and follow prescribed methodologies to drive continuous improvement.

    Ensure High Level of Engineering Availability

    • Work with engineering team to identify opportunities to improve overall performance.
    • Generate breakdown job cards for engineering team to action accordingly.
    • Coordinate 1st Line Maintenance activities for Production Operators with Maintenance Planning Team.                                                   

    Create a Safe Operating Environment

    • Manage EHS activities in department.
    • Conduct Risk assessments on all activities in department.
    • Work with Production Manager to update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) on an annual basis or when the process changes.
    • Conduct PJO’s (Planned Job Observations) for all team members in department.
    • Collate near misses that occur during the shift and report back to SHE sub-committee.

    Minimum requirements

    • Production Management Degree / Diploma or Technical equivalent
    • 5 to 10 years’ experience as a Production Supervisor or equivalent in a Food Manufacturing Facility.
    • 3 to 5 Year experience with conducting RCA / Problem Solving.
    • 3 to 5 Year experience leading a Production Team.
    • 3 to 5 Year experience using TPM or WCM Methodologies to drive Continuous Improvement.
    • Able to work shifts and weekends
    • Ability to work in a cold or hot environment and or in a working position on the lines.
    • Outstanding organizational & interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Attention to detail and able to cope under pressure.
    • Good teaching and people management skills.
