    Business Process Engineer

    Sappi Global Business Services requires a Business Process Engineer to drive the development of detailed business requirements and coordinate the analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of business process and IT system improvements within specific functional area/s. This role reports to the General Manager Finance - Shared Services.

    The main responsibilities of the job are:
    Drive the process of defining business requirements for new IT solutions

    • Develop a thorough understanding of the business area’s short, medium and long term objectives and its current business processes.
    • Review current state processes and identify problem areas, inefficiencies and control weaknesses. Proactively identify improvement opportunities.
    • Educate/support business colleagues on current and future system capabilities/system solutions.
    • Provide specific business area subject matter input and facilitate the development of business requirements for new or improved business and system processes.
    • Evaluate requirements against the business objectives.
    • Develop the business case that reflects the value and cost of the changes.

    Solution design

    • Evaluate and develop solution options for business.
    • Develop detailed business process flows and include how technology solutions will enable the business processes.
    • Analyse the proposed changes against existing processes to determine the change impact.
    • Recommend solution alternatives to business owners.
    • Drive the development of a specific area’s functional specifications (business controls, system functions, information flows, system controls). Document business rules, the data dictionary/glossary and data models as applicable.
    • Use Sappi standards for business process and system notation as well as data definitions. Ensure that functional specifications are detailed enough to enable technical design.
    • Develop the transition plans.
    • Assist in the identification of risks and issues related to business requirements or the solution design.

    Support delivery and implementation

    • Provide input into system configuration activities by collaborating with IT and solutions partners.
    • Analyse the impact of requirement or scope changes and make recommendations to the business owners on how to mitigate them.
    • Contribute to the development of the system testing approach, test cases, test data and testing scenarios (including regression and negative testing).
    • Participate in user acceptance testing. Provide detailed feedback on whether the developed solution meets the documented business requirements.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to business owners.
    • Assist with the deployment of a structured change plan including stakeholder updates, communication, training and training manuals.
    • Review problem logs and identify the root causes of repetitive business issues.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Relevant Bachelors’ Degree
    • Honours Degree in Finance
    • 5 or more years relevant Business Process Engineer experience
    • Understanding the accounting impact of system changes
    • SAP system certification preferred

    Fitter

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Fit, assemble, grind and shape metal parts and sub-assemblies to maintain production machines and other equipment as required
    • Schedule maintenance for the plant or area of responsibility according to notifications and Planned Schedules
    • Perform fault finding on systems during breakdowns and repair the problem or correct equipment to keep downtime to a minimum
    • Perform daily and weekly inspections on equipment according to a detailed inspection list
    • Perform standby as required to cover breakdowns after normal working hours and weekends, report all deviations to the Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman)
    • Report all unsafe acts to the Maintenance Support Mechanical
    • Draw spares from stores utilising SAP as required by the task being performed
    • Improve and maintain Master Data in SAP’s accuracy and comply with work order business processes and update as required
    • Comply to Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) requirements of the Mill and section
    • Assist production personnel with Equipment Isolation / Lockout of the process when performing isolations / Lockouts of the equipment
    • Investigate incidents and identify root cause / s of Non-Conformances and take corrective actions on all deviations as required
    • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the workplace and workshop at all times

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter or Fitter and Turner
    • Grade 12 or N3 Engineering
    • 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy engineering environment will be advantageous
    • Valid Driving Licence

    Rigger Helper

     The main responsibilities of this job are: 

    • Attend Shift Based Team meeting.
    • Collecting materials from the stores when required.
    • Move and transport equipment in the workplace.
    • Clean machines, tools and working areas as required.
    • Assist Artisans with breakdowns and perform tasks as per competency level.
    • Assist with escorting and setting up of cranes as well as other heavy machinery

    • N3 Engineering Studies or Grade 12 with Maths and Science

    Technical Product Specialist

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    Sales and Marketing / Product development

    • Provide specialist product knowledge in identifying customer issues and advising customers on solutions that meet customer requirements and customer machine specifications
    • Identify and drive opportunities for product development and market share growth for Sappi Southern African and Sappi European products
    • Facilitate, attend and manage paper trials at customers for all new Sappi products
    • Drive product specification of all new products South Africa and European at converter level, with end-user requirements in mind, together with the relevant Sales Manager
    • Apply technical methodology and product benefits in promoting Sappi products and services to current and potential customers
    • Support the marketing strategy by providing product training, to influence customer satisfaction and commitment to Sappi products
    • Provide information to Sales Managers and Key Account Managers to provide insight into customer needs
    • Facilitate and plan customer visits of customer technical personnel to Sappi production facilities and the Pretoria Technology Centre with a focus on relationship building at a technical level

    Customer and Personal Services

    • Build relationships with customer technical personnel by scheduling regular technical meetings together with relevant Sappi personnel
    • Maintain customer technical information through detailed reports on the Customer Relationship Management System (Sales Force) to ensure effective communication on all matters technical with Sappi European counterparts
    • Identify and make the most of opportunities to market Sappi’s products through interaction with customer technical personnel
    • Raise and record Customer Service Requests (CSR’s), resolving efficiently. Initiate the upliftment and return of sub-standard products by working closely with mill product managers, mill production managers and logistic department. Provide feedback on outcomes to the General Manager
    • Respond to customer quality complaints or queries within 24 hours, and provide progressive feedback until the investigation is completed
    • Continuous negotiation and interrogation of the settlement value of the customer submitted a claim, to ensure fair resolution of reported technical problem.

    Technical and Technical Reporting

    • Leverage in-depth technical knowledge in the principles and processes of printing, converting and finishing techniques in providing a service differentiator and value add to all customers
    • Liaise/negotiate with relevant Production Managers, Product Managers and Sales Managers to ensure customers receive timeous feedback regarding claims, product development and technical support requests.
    • Facilitate technical meetings at all key customers on a quarterly basis with relevant personnel to ensure continuous adherence to Sappi product specifications providing proactive feedback to both South African and European technical personnel
    • Review of customer machinery set-up and warehousing standards, provide recommendations in effective print, converting, storage and pre-press of Sappi products.  
    • Discuss design and technical features of Sappi products with customer technical personnel
    • Advise customers of the correct technique, procedures, and equipment type to the respective Sappi paper grade

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Degree or Diploma / NQF Level 6 – 7 qualification in Commerce, Engineering or Manufacturing.
    • Specialization in papermaking or printing
    • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in paper or print industry
    • Experience in paper converting would be advantageous
    • Experience at a paper / pulp mill would be advantageous
    • Knowledge on the following print techniques: litho sheetfed, litho web, gravure, & flexo

    Electrician

    The main responsibilities of the job are:

    PLANT/EQUIPMENT EFFICIENCY

    • Installs, tests, connects, commissions, maintains and modifies electrical equipment, wiring and control systems.
    • Coordinates with assigned Foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
    • Ensure optimum plant availability by efficient diagnosis, repair and maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment.
    • Inspects electrical systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating conditions, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
    • Overhaul AC and DC motors and perform series of tests on each motor to determine the condition of the motor windings, insulation and core lamination during this process.

    • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required.
    • Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section.
    • Monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements and corrects non-conformances.
    • Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-Conformances and corrects deviations.
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Matric and/or N2 (4 subjects)
    • N3 Advantageous
    • Electrical Trade test Certificate
    • 2 years post apprentice experience (preferable)

    Clamp Truck Operator

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Attend shift based team meetings for feedback and special instructions relating to shifting requirements
    • Check clamp truck as per vehicle checklist and report defects to the supervisor

    Intern - Corporate Film Maker Saiccor 2022

    The main responsibilities of the job are:

    • Assist in script development by sourcing content from subject matter experts, as well as scheduling and coordinating video shoots.
    • Determine what camera equipment is necessary for the shoot.
    • Identify what content would be suited for 360 degree video and virtual reality.

    Scientist II - COE

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Conduct independent research activities and customer investigations as outlined by the supervisor ensuring efficient utilisation of resources including raw material, research equipment and people
    • Plan and execute activities as per project plan under supervision incl. writing of project proposals, technical notes and research reports. Use available project management tools to schedule project milestones and activities, and to capture project activities and service costs.
    • Use basic theories to form hypotheses, select the research methods and scope the types of experiments needed to understand and solve problems.
    • Prepare project proposals based on an overall scope and targets defined by the Senior/Lead Scientist. Proposals cover the business case, experimental design potential benefits, metrics/success measures and planned outcomes.
    • Obtain appropriate project approvals.
    • Develop detailed project plans and timelines. Describe milestones, deliverables and allocate to laboratory teams. Demonstrate procedures if needed.
    • Monitor project progress and review results as required to deliver the project.
    • Perform mill trials, customer trials, customer complaints investigations, trouble shooting at mills, process and product improvement projects at mills or customer plants.
    • Coordinate and assist with collection of trial and process investigation samples and data, identify appropriate experimental methods and perform the laboratory work for novel analytical techniques as designed and developed by the supervisor. Conduct data collection and consolidation of trial data
    • Troubleshoot anomalous results and quality deviations and execute or direct implementation of corrective actions.
    • Identify appropriate experimental methods and perform the laboratory work for novel projects as designed and developed by the Senior Research Scientist.
    • Analyse results of experiments using statistical methods, scientific literature or theories and explain the test results. Recommend additional or alternative testing if the outcomes of initial experiments need to be improved or validated. The Senior Research Scientist approves scope changes and/or additional testing.
    • Maintain and manage accurate records and databases of project data and identify and interpret trends across projects where applicable.
    • Identify new analytical methods/equipment/consumables that could improve existing laboratory operations and/or are required for new/novel projects.
    • Commission and/or supervise commissioning of new equipment and methods based on the equipment manufacturer’s standards.
    • Support the laboratory teams (Technologists and Analysts) to understand the equipment parameters and correct usage.
    • Ensure that experiments are designed in a cost-effective manner with the least amount of waste.
    • Review the quality of work performed by Technologists and Analysts in the laboratory and coach the lab teams on how to improve their work quality.
    • Chair and/or participate in the Root Cause Analyses for safety deviations (near misses and incidents) in the laboratory. Prepare remedial actions and present for approval. Drive the remediation and close-out processes.
    • Manage and improve the laboratory quality management system according to ISO 17025 standards.
    • Identify appropriate suppliers and obtain approval from the Senior/Lead Scientist for any new materials, chemicals and consumables that will be introduced into the laboratory.
    • Define the new materials, chemicals and consumables quality standard and prepare appropriate documents/procedures for safe handling (e.g. safety data sheets and safe work procedures).
    • Communicate chemical safety requirements to the lab team and, on request, to mill teams who will be handling the chemicals.
    • Keep abreast of new developments in the cellulose/Pulp and Paper/ Biotechnology fields through industry journals, online forums and events/ conferences and begin to establish expertise in a specific area.
    • Share information gathered from these with the rest of the research team where appropriate and contribute to innovation processes through idea generation for research and development projects.
    • Provide direct research supervision for Technologists and Analysts in the laboratory. Share knowledge and best practices and support their professional growth.
    • Set annual performance objectives and define personal development plan for direct reports, as well as continuously reviewing agreed objectives and development plan with the supervisor.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • B Tech/BSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or Pulp and Paper these fields with 3 years relevant experience.
    • B Sc Hon degree would be advantageous.
    • Laboratory/Research Project management experience
    • Pulping and bleaching knowledge advantageous
