    HR Business Partner

    Description

    • WhereIsMyTransport is a globally distributed scale-up revolutionising the way public transport information from emerging-market megacities can be accessed and understood. Using geospatial data collection, we untangle the mysteries of dynamic public transport networks - knowledge which, when shared, improves understanding and creates a more equitable society. We’re experts in our field - that’s why we’re backed by some of the world’s most renowned mobility technology investors, including Google and Toyota Tsusho.
    • We’re hiring our first HR Business Partner to take responsibility for aligning our People roadmap with the broader business strategy, building out processes which ensure alignment and engagement for our global team, without slowing us down. We’re a growing, remote-first business, with teams in four continents, and you will need to prioritise and deliver on initiatives which will have the most impact when it comes to creating a working environment where our global team can thrive and do their best work. You will be the go-to person for line managers in our team when it comes to employee relations and People policies, and will have support from our Head of People and an external firm of experts on local employment law in our different locations.
    • We will prioritise applicants from South Africa and the UK for this post, but are happy to consider applicants from countries based in a similar time zone to these. We’re aiming to get our team to a point where they enjoy even greater flexibility of working hours through improved remote-work practices - and you’ll be responsible for driving that - but due to the fact that we have teams in South America and Asia you may - at times - need to work hours which are slightly outside of a 9-5.
    • In the first six months your success in this role will be defined by the following:
    • Make sure remote work “works” for us - work with our mid-senior leadership team to drive change and improve the way we work remotely, and asynchronously in particular.
    • Build out self-service guidance for line managers and individual contributors covering key People processes.
    • Take ownership of programmes and training in support of DE&I - build on what we have to ensure our team continues to value and seek out difference and unique perspectives as we scale.

    What you’ll do:

    • Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters to line managers across the business, globally, on how to handle employee matters.
    • Analyse trends from employee surveys and feed learnings into improving our People team roadmap.
    • Partner with our Head of Talent on workforce planning initiatives, including identifying and implementing training needs.
    • Propose, plan, and deliver on key People-related projects such as the implementation of:
    • Employee well-being initiatives and policies
    • Improved performance development programmes
    • Total rewards strategy
    • Online and in-person events which drive a sense of community and cohesion
    • Ongoing iteration of our remote on- and offboarding processes
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation across locations, including ownership of visa tracking and compliance.
    • Develop and own a reporting function for the People team, sharing qualitative and quantitative data, achievements and lessons learned with our senior leadership team, investors, and Board.
    • Set and manage the annual budget for People initiatives in partnership with the Head of People and Head of Talent.

    Required skills and knowledge

    • Experience in an HR generalist role in a growing business
    • Experience building out people policies for distributed, remote-first teams
    • Experience in driving DE&I initiatives
    • Able to see and drive the big picture, but comfortable getting stuck in
    • You don’t need to have created or managed budgets before, but must know your way around Excel / Google sheets
    • You are business-minded and curious
    • You have a positive attitude - and you love challenge and change in equal measure
    • You’re highly emotionally intelligent and a very strong communicator - written and spoken - in English
    • You can be relied upon to keep sensitive information confidential
    • You’re pragmatic in your approach and know when to stand your ground and when to give on something less key

    Bonus attributes (skills, knowledge, behaviours)

    • Experience managing payroll
    • Experience with labor legislation in other countries than your own
    • Spanish as a second language
