    Insurance Consultant

    WHAT DOES THE INSURANCE CONSULTANT DO?
    Santam Operations, Commercial Contact Centre have career opportunities available for Insurance Consultants base in Cape Town, Bellville. The insurance consultant role is focused on providing an end-to-end service and support to brokers. 


    WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE?
    This role is focused on, but not limited to; servicing broker requests, including enquiries.
    •    Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    •    Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries;
    •    Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / agri aspects of policies;
    •    Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements;
    •    Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy onto books;
    •    Undertaking to adjust premiums in line with new asset values;
    •    Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests;
    •    Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements;
    •    Assist with profiling the client with the best suitable product and underwriting criteria;
    •    Advising brokers to ensure that we meet with clients’ needs in terms of the correct cover and product;
    •    Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement; and
    •    Standing in for Consultants should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.


    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    •    Matric/ Grade 12
    •    60 commercial lines FAIS credits
    •    A relevant insurance related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 5) would be advantageous 
    •    Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry
    •    Minimum of 3 years’ experience in short term insurance commercial lines and/or Agri assets

    Senior Motor Underwriter

    What will you do?

    We have an amazing opportunity for a seasoned individual to join our organisation within the Underwriting and Reinsurance Services department at Santam Ltd.  The role will be based in Sandton and will form part of our Commercial Underwriting (Motor Underwriting).


    JOB DESCRIPTION
    • Responsible for balancing growth and profitability of the Motor portfolio (shared responsibility with Broker Services)
    • Research and implement appropriate underwriting rules for the Commercial motor portfolio
    • Research and benchmark vehicle security requirements and how to apply them, develop reports to support requirements
    • Research and benchmark Driving behaviour requirements and how to apply them, develop reports to support requirements
    • Research and benchmark vehicle Inspection requirements and how to apply them, develop reports to support requirements
    • Research and benchmark the applicability of vehicle accessories and implement improvements
    • Research and develop new improve products for motor insurance (Value add and Core products)
    • Identify underwriting trends and address pro-actively
    • Identify and manage data quality and correction of data
    • Research and find ways to utilize data sources to enhance data quality and to automate processes and eliminate the amount of information required from brokers/clients
    • Collaborate with Claims staff to identify and resolve any issues around motor claims settlement
    • Do claims governance to ensure compliance with underwriting view on settlement of claims and identify gabs in our wording or processes to enhance claims service.
    • Assist with transfer of skills to claims staff
    • Assist with special commercial motor projects as and when it is necessary
    • Manage Car hire agreement, administrate and communicate changes with stakeholders
    • Engage with and influence industry stakeholders such as road traffic regulators, RAF, Compulsory Third Party insurance in RSA, SAIA and NAMSA etc. because of Santam’s dependency from a business perspective on the services provided by these stakeholders
    • Provide internal stakeholders (e.g. ERM, Compliance Officer, Etc.) with subject matter expertise for all reporting and compliance requirements.
    • Provide clarity on policy wording interpretation and indemnification at claims stage
    • Draft and Sign-off on policy wordings

    Qualifications and Experience

    • B. Degree/AIISA or comparable short term insurance qualification
    • FAIS compliant (120 credits-commercial insurance)
    • Automotive body refinisher or Automotive Mechanic qualification
    • 10 years extensive insurance industry experience, specifically in Motor claims, assessment, settlement and training.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in assessing motor claims on a senior level
    • 5 years Management experience in the motor trade (advantageous)
    • Motor Supply Chain Management experience (advantageous)
    • Drafting of commercial policy wordings (advantageous)

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Technical commercial underwriting skills – specifically in motor underwriting
    • Short-term insurance knowledge – specifically in commercial business
    • Knowledge of South African commercial insurance market products – specifically motor insurance products
    • High level knowledge in the relevant repair processes and repair methods for vehicles
    • High proficiency in MS Office:  Word, Excel (Advanced), PowerPoint

    Compliance Manager

    What will you do?

     

    Our Risk Office (Group Compliance and Business Integrity) has a position available for a Manager: Compliance who will be based in Bellville (Cape Town).

     

    The Compliance Function is mandated to ensure that the compliance risks (i.e. compliance with regulatory, ethical, and internal and external policy obligations imposed on the Group) are appropriately monitored and addressed by management. A risk-based approach is adopted to ensure that material compliance risks are addressed and mitigated by the business.


    The compliance function is accountability to the Santam Group Board, through the Santam Group Risk Committee to ensure that compliance risks are appropriately monitored and addressed by management. 

     

    This is a Group function which will operate in all jurisdictions where Santam has a footprint in alignment with the necessary mandate. The role of the Manager Compliance will be to assist the Group Compliance Function in the Execution of the Group Compliance mandate as set out by the Board.


    In addition, this incumbent will be appointed as the Deputy Information Officer for Santam Ltd in terms of POPIA to perform functions as designated by the Information Officer.

    What will make you successful in this role?

     

    • Compliance Risk Management

      • Conduct Compliance risk assessments across the businesses and to provide pro-active guidance to the businesses in addressing compliance risks (which includes compliance with legal, regulatory and ethical obligations and standards applicable to the businesses).

    • Monitoring Compliance and Reporting

      • Conducting Compliance Audits/Reviews to monitor adherence to compliance obligations and preparing the relevant compliance reports to the various levels of management in the businesses.

    • Provide appropriate input into compliance projects where required. 

      • Render appropriate Compliance advice/guidance, training to the businesses as and when required 

    • Handle requests from third parties (internal requests and external requests) relating to POPIA related matters as directed to the Information Privacy Office and as determined by the Information Officer and/or Deputy Information Officer under POPIA and PROATIA.

    • Coaching and mentoring of less experienced compliance employees.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • NQF Level 8: Degree in Law / LLB preferably a postgraduate degree in Law 

    • Post graduate Diploma/Compliance Certificate 

    • Admitted attorney of the High Court

    • Continuous adherence to the fit & proper requirements as determined by the Prudential Authority and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority

    • Extensive knowledge of legislation, regulations and legal principles applicable to the financial services industry, in particular the insurance sector

    • At least 8-10 years of experience in financial services industry, in particular the non-life insurance sector

    • Good knowledge of the Protection of Personal Information Act and its requirements

    • In-depth technical knowledge of regulations and legal requirements applicable in the insurance financial services industry  and conduct risks
