    Artisan (Plater / Welder)

    Job Purpose    
    To provide plating and welding skills for the manufacture, installation and repair of various mechanical items utilised in the construction and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Carry out broad varied plating,structural and welding manufacturing,development and repair work-scope.
    • Undertake various types of welding techniques.
    • Undertake flame cutting of materials.
    • Use and operate all equipment,vehicles,3000kg counter weight forklift and machinery.
    • Undertake site visits to record measurements and working drawings.
    • Undertake the fabrication of sheet metal work and pipework.
    • Drive vehicles such as mobile crane trucks and aerial platforms.
    • Complete job cards,time sheets,material requisitions,attendance register.
    • Motivate and train apprentices,mechanical assistants,trade workers,handymen and other staff.
    • Undertake various types of structure related activities,the manufacture and installation thereof and any other duties that fall within the scope of mechanical engineering.
    • Undertake the installation and maintenance of polypropylene pipework and equipment.
    • Undertake the erection and use of scaffold and the operation of overhead cranes.
    • Undertake the rigging operations.

    Essential Requirements    

    • N2 qualification in Plating and Welding OR Boilermaking and Welding from a Further Education and Training College registered with the Department of Education.
    • Qualified Artisan: Plater/Welder or Boilermaker/Welder who has served a recognisedapprenticeship.
    • Valid Code EB (08) or EC1 (10) driver's licence, as applicable Valid Professional Drivers Permit.
    • Pass proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient knowledge of the welding trade.
    • 1 year post apprentice experience in mechanical engineering development, manufacturing and maintenance.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • 2 years post apprentice experience in welding.

    Job Purpose    

    • To provide a credible, holistic Human Capital (HC) service and support to the Unit serviced in achieving its service delivery mandate, through workforce planning, resource allocation, formulation, and execution of the Human Capital (HC) strategy and goals.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Responsible for the development of HC strategic initiatives in alignment with the corporate and HC Cluster strategy that supports the City.
    • Plan, Lead and Manage the execution of HC strategic initiatives for the HC Teams.
    • Human Capital Business partnering (HCBP) Provides specific HC deliverables in the allocated Units.
    • Develop, monitor, and review a target recruitment and retention framework and ensure compliance by HC and line managers in line with the needs of the Unit serviced.
    • Collaborate with eThekwini Municipal Academy (EMA) and units in identifying competency gaps and improvements in the development of a highly skilled workforce.
    • Responsible for creation, implementation, reporting of plans to promote transformation, diversity and inclusion within the organisation and the refinement of policies that govern.
    • Provide input and support in the design, implementation, and evaluation of HCIS system to enhance the effectiveness if the human capital department in executing functions required to ensure that these systems (e-Performance, E-Careers, ESS, etc) work efficiently

    Deputy Head (Customer & Retail Services)

    Job Purpose    

    • Directs and controls the Customer and Retail Services Department of the Electricity Unit for eThekwini Municipality.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Manages the Customer and Retail Services Department of eThekwini Electricity.
    • Accepts responsibility of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure adherence to the law.
    • Formulates the short, medium and long term strategic direction of the Customer Services and Sales Department.
    • Plans the activities of the Customer Service and Sales Departments.
    • Formulates capital and operating budgets.
    • Implements the Customer Services and Sales Departments plans and monitors performance.
    • Directs and controls the key performance indicators and outcomes of the personnel in the Customer and Retail Services Departments.
    • Deals with ad-hoc issues that arise.
    • Liaises and negotiates with Eskom to ensure the existing and future quality and security of the bulk infeed supply will enable the Department to meet the standards and performance targets set for its own services.
    • Formulates electricity consumption tariffs for domestic, business and industrial customers.

    Essential Requirements    

    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
    • Must be in possession of the Electrical Engineer’s Certificate of Competency (Commonly referred to as the Government Competency Certificate).
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 7 Years engineering management experience in the electricity industry or a related field of electrical engineering of which at least 2 years must be at a senior management level.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • Master’s in Business Management or Master’s in Business leadership degree or alternative suitable management qualification. (NQF 8).
    • 10 years engineering management experience in the electricity transmission or distribution industry.
