    Team Leader

    Job Summary

    The Team Lead is a management professional with a good technical understanding of manufacturing and general food technology. Team Leads should ideally have proficient mechanical skills and display excellent personal and leadership qualities.

    The TL leads a shift consisting of several teams.  The TL is responsible for the safety of those on the shift, the quality of production and the quantity produced against business requirements.

    Leading improvement projects for operational processes, TL have a strong understanding of the end to end manufacturing process. This includes the food and electro-mechanical processes and controls. She/he is able to interpret technical diagnostics, identify key issues and process risks. TL possess the leadership skills to act with speed and rigour.

    She/he understands the factory’s financial situation and use their training in continuous improvement methodologies to drive the team’s work to counter losses and eradicate waste. They lead project work to support factory initiatives. Skills for problem solving, coaching and innovating are central to the role. The TL provides a common standard of communication and engagement across the factory. They liaise closely with the core factory functions, including Engineering, Planning, HR, Quality and Safety to achieve this.

    Main Job Purpose

    • Leadership. Promote the development of a highly effective team through the establishment of a positive team climate supported by authentic leadership and clear communication.
    • Technical. Effective mechanical skills supported by detailed knowledge of the end to end manufacturing processes relevant to their operation and endorsed Good Manufacturing Practice. Knowledge of food and electro-mechanical processes and principal factory controls.
    • Preventative maintenance schemes and condition monitoring (e.g. vibration analysis).
    • Hazardous Area Equipment and Hazards specific to operation.
    • Online/remote diagnostics to connect with category technical experts.
    • Safety. Utilise appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team. Full knowledge of hazards in the workplace.
    • Environment. Reduce costs due to waste and minimise impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
    • Facilitation and Coaching. An ability to facilitate technical improvements using continuous improvement tools. Able to coach Operators to build team performance and responsible for administration of Unilever disciplinary matrix.
    • Decision Making. Makes governance decisions for the team and adjudicates on unresolved team issues. Sets the strategy for Continuous Improvement and Preventative Maintenance in her/his area guided by loss trends and direction provided by the SUD and Engineering Managers.
    • Continuous Improvement. Apply rigorous Cost Deployment and the Zero loss concept to eliminate losses. High skill level in Continuous Improvement that is aligned closely with World Class Manufacturing and LEAN methodologies.
    • Problem Solving. Has the ability to identify, prioritise and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.
    • Quality. Apply core knowledge of Quality skills; Quality Measurement, Prioritisation, Improvement, Assessment and Certification etc to sustain Quality standards in the factory operation.
    • Management. Able to coordinate business resources and apply risk management processes. Keen sense of prioritisation and ability to influence change. Resolve conflicts where identified.
    • Administration. Timely and accurate administration for a cluster of teams; shift rosters, time keeping, pay, performance, training and safety. Liaise with Sourcing Unit leads to ensure policy compliance.
    • Planning and Organising. Prepare work plans within resource constraints and review implementation to drive improvement.
    • Systems. Responsible for execution of stock counts and SAP material movements to support effective raw and packaging material control.
    • Business Awareness. Understand the business needs for change and innovation.

    Key Requirements

    • National Diploma / Degree or Technical, Food and Engineering related.
    • Over 3 years’ experience in a Team Lead Role
    • Diploma level in a nationally registered management programme typically covering leadership and managing change, human resources management, organisations and behaviour, business strategy and decision making.

    In Service Trainee - Industrial Engineering

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    RM & PM Technician

    MAIN JOB PURPOSE: Supports Quality Management Systems and Hygiene agenda for site by ensuring testing and analysis of raw and packaging materials is carried out without interruption to manufacturing and packing operations.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    • Analyses chemical Raw and Packaging Materials and ensure conformity to specification and to report when off specification occurs
    • Preparation and standardization of Laboratory Reagents
    • Create a system to receive waybill from Warehouse for every receipt of raw materials and document
    • Inspect offloading of raw materials and weigh representative samples to confirm declared weight
    • Take samples and analyse against specifications
    • Record your readings, release good materials and reject if it failed the confirmatory tests
    • Problem solving when defective RM’s and PM’s are received and act with speed to ensure a resolution
    • Provide feedback to the shop floor on RM/PM related quality issues
    • Raising of E incidents and follow up on corrective actions
    • Conduct supplier audits and coordinate meetings with suppliers and procurement
    • Conduct internal audits of the warehouse and laboratory results
    • Implement a quality assessment of pallets and audit the warehouse
    • Trend and analyse all raw material results
    • Ensure all shift analyst are trained on testing procedures on raw and packaging materials
    • Ensure all rejected RM/PM are written off, SMA raised and coordinate the movement of the stock back to supplier
    • Timeous input or results and release of materials off SAP
    • Batch management system of new materials arriving on site
    • Active involvement in any changes and introduction of new raw and packaging materials on site including inspect all trial material prior to a trial
    • Finished products line inspection for assigned lines when required
    • Report any non-conformance on the shop floor
    • Daily factory walk about and record quality issues
    • Ensure that all jobs are done safely, without negative impact on the environment
    • Ensure all RM and PM specs are current an available at point of use
    • Top RM and PM losses to be identified and collaborative work with R&D and procurement
    • Support with trials

    KEY REQUIREMENTS:

    • Completed Biotechnology or relevant Degree
    • Completed Course in Packaging material, specifically plastic will be an advantage
    • 3-5 years experience within FMCG/ Manufacturing environment
    • Experience in factory quality field
    • Proficient QMS & SAP QM experience

    Site Quality Lead

    JOB SUMMARY:

    • Maintains the quality systems in conformance with internal policies (Ekaterra, ISO, Plant) and external requirements (customer, regulatory agency, registrar) including the development and improvement of GMP and HACCP plans
    • Develop department personnel and development of departmental quality goals. Key leader in continuous improvement programs for quality, safety, cost and service
    • Manages programs required for the control of nonconforming products, Product identification and traceability, laboratory methods and calibration, inspection and test systems, document and records control.
    • Reviews and approves procedures, work instructions, work standards, specifications, preventive and corrective actions. Works with external parties in identifying risks in innovations, trials and ensuring successful trial completion on all quality aspects.
    • Manage department spending & cost reduction projects.
    • Positively coordinates activities, supports quality team and extended team and provides area of expertise. Manages recalls and product incidents on site with GTM.

    • Manage stock rotation (FIFO) during blends creation to eliminate the risk of stock aging on site
    • Manage the adherence to blend cost targets / forecast as agreed with finance and procurement team.
    • Maintain rework approval records and Include rework usage instructions to blend sheets according to GMP standards and rework procedure.
    • Prepare complaints samples and competitors sample for sensory evaluation as an when required.
    • Blending and rework process - oversee the blending & rework process audits on WIP, rework.
    • Advise whether blended tea can be released to packing lines.
    • Ensure shredded rework and addition is according to rework procedure / GMP requirement.
    • Ensure only approved rework is used and traceability is maintained.

    KEY REQUIREMENTS:

    • Completed BSc/ BTech Degree
    • 3-5 years QC Supervisory experience within a manufacturing or QA environment
    • Must have solid experience with HACCP, interpreting regulations, customer requirements, specifications and
    • develop quality systems aligned with GMP standards that are effective and workable within general plant capabilities
    • Proficient experience with process and package improvements and innovations that drive cost reduction
    • Strong leadership and management experience, budget and cost reduction and project management experience

    Artisan

    MAIN JOB PURPOSE:  

    • To provide multidisciplinary engineering skills to achieve breakdown reduction and factory performance targets through the application of EM and AM methodologies.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    Engineering

    • Diagnoses and interprets multi-disciplinary problems (fault finding) to optimize production output and with own team carries out the plant repairs.
    • Ensures that service levels are maintained at the required standards by carrying out all breakdown, preventative, and predictive maintenance effectively.

    PM

    • Is responsible for the reduction of breakdowns in his area of responsibility by analyzing breakdowns, complying with the PPM requirement, and implementing Continuous improvements.
    • Participates in strategic engineering plans to deliver maintenance and breakdown reduction benefits (RCM). Delivers PM KPI’s

    Problem Solving and Decision Making

    • Responsible for faultfinding and problem solving of engineering/ operational problems in his area by ensuring that the appropriate corrective action regarding any deviation from standards is taken.
    • Identifies the major engineering losses in his area and investigates using Kaizan problem solving methodology. (Fishbone, 5 Why etc.)

    Administration

    • Completes all required documentation to standard and captures SAP, maintenance, and stores information on relevant data system.

    SHE

    • Ensures that Company safety rules and regulations are adhered to within the sphere of his responsibility.
    • Implementation and assists with maintaining Unilever safety and 5S standards in the area on responsibility.

    AM

    • Draws up, Coaches, and develops engineering skills to other maintenance and operational staff using OPL and SOP’s.
    • Completes tags in his area of responsibility to the completion ratio required

    KEY REQUIREMENTS

    • N3 (Mechanical) and N3 (Electrical or Instrument) with 3 years relevant experience in manufacturing environment.
