    Clear Global Trade and Excise Manager - JHB

    Key Responsibilities

    • As a Manager you are required to assist the senior management of the team in ensuring that we continue to add value to our clients.
    • Attending client meetings, guiding junior staff on risk management and drafting documents are part and parcel of the opportunity.
    • Drafting opinions, responses to SARS audit findings and general Customs and or Excise advise are expected from the successful candidate.
    • The ability to work with Excel and or PowerBI to analyse big data is a requirement.

    To qualify for the role, you must have  

    • A University Degree in Law, Commerce Honours, Accounting Honours, and or Logistics Honours is required
    • Around 3 - 5 years working experience in consulting and 1 – 2 years in a managerial role is required
    • Work experience in Customs, Excise, Logistics and or International Trade is preferred
    • Ideally, you’ll also have
    • Other accredited Customs, Excise and or International Trade qualifications would be beneficial

    Project Manager - Cape Town

    The key activities that form part of the role are as follows:

    • Develop and create the code structure for the management of the accounts
    • Assisting teams with the preparation of and review of detailed account budgets in line with the budget timelines
    • Preparation of regular management information for the account leadership team including budget vs actual analysis, variance and root cause analysis, cost, and profitability forecasts etc
    • Escalation of any issues from this analysis early, proposing solutions/adjustments
    • Project managing to various milestones set
    • Management of the working capital function for these accounts (driving billings and collection of cash)
    • Preparation and attendance of EXCO and margin management presentations
    • Co-ordination of resources from other EY offices and Third parties with audit teams
    • Communication with audit partners/senior managers daily on various items i.e., Engagement codes, costs, margin, fees, etc
    • Engagement Code maintenance (e.g., estimates to complete etc.)
    • Reporting to the Assurance COO and Operations Director on the financial results of the accounts
    • Help implement and drive the optimal service delivery model (Regional Hub in Mauritius/Global Hub in India/Digital) for the accounts
    • Implementing the use of service level agreements (SLAs) between service lines
    • Control of costs hitting the account (disbursements, travel, third parties etc.) and ensuring this is recovered from the clients
    • Ensuring compliance with relevant risk management/independence policies
    • Being an integral part of developing the global account plan
    • Responsibility for measuring and monitoring the execution of the account plan

    Skill Set Required for the role

    • Excel skills (formulae, pivot tables, dealing with large amounts of data)
    • Powerpoint/Presentation skills (ability to craft presentations that accurately present a picture of the account position
    • Financial Analytical skills – ability to identify the root cause of issues and provide recommendations to leadership

    • Tailoring communication to different audiences, including an executive level
    • Ability to work under pressure

    Your client responsibilities

    • Work effectively as a team member, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress.
    • Assign and manage tasks with other team members considering engagement needs and identified business outcomes, and organize own work such that important items get done first.
    • Build strong internal relationships within EY and with other services across the organization.
    • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel.
    • Research client industry, company structure, key customers and suppliers and possible insight into operations and the various processes.
    • Manage own time in line with budgets
    • Preparing business process descriptions through interviews with the client and documenting understanding of business process and confirm the business process descriptions by performing a walkthrough of the process.
    • Identifying possible business risks and control weaknesses from the business processes under review.
    • Drafting detailed audit programmes to test controls in place.
    • Assessment of design and implementation of key controls as well as the operating effectiveness, accuracy and validity thereof.
    • Identify basic data analytic procedures
    • Compilation of working papers substantiating scope and results of testing.
    • Provide a coaching / mentoring role.
    • Draft individual sections of documents and presentations to explain issues and solution options and implications.
    • Display a logical thought process in understanding client challenges and exploring possible solutions.   
    • Identify and escalate potential risks and issues to project manager along with suggested preventive or mitigating actions.
    • Draft audit findings for review by EY Management.

    Technical skills requirements

    • Must have Honours in Internal Audit,  Accounting,  Business, Finance or other related field
    • CIA or part CIA will be an added benefit
    • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
    • Related audit or applicable business experience
    • Proficient in Microsoft office (including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
