    Welder - Richards Bay

    The purpose of this position is to perform specialized welding service, repairs and maintenance by maintenance welding to plant machinery / equipment as requested to a wide range of equipment in his/her area of responsibility to ensure optimum availability and efficiency of equipment

    Profile Requirements:

    • Grade 12 + Full N3
    • Qualified trade tested as a Welder
    • Code 08 (EB) Driver’s License

    Experience:

    • 2 – 3 Years’ experience as a qualified, trade tested Welder within a manufacturing industry.
    • Specific technical experience in the fitting field within Pulp and Paper

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Perform specialized welding duties in the operations on plant and equipment related to welding repair and maintenance services as well as preventative maintenance on components.

    Specialist Forest Engineering

    Purpose of the position:

    • Along with a team of competent individuals, the incumbent of this position will need to drive & control Forest Engineering systems development and equipment selection to achieve optimal productivity and reduced delivered cost, maintaining a high standard of quality and an uncompromising view on Safety for Operations within Mondi South Africa and SQF. 

    Qualification & Expertise

    • BSc or BTech in Forestry 
    • MSc, MTech Forest Science with Forest Engineering major: desirable

    Job Experience

    • At least 5-10 years Operational Forest Engineering Experience
    • Experience in managing a team
    • Demonstrated knowledge of implementing Continuous Improvement methodology in a business
    • Knowledge of Road Transport Management System (RTMS) and Performance Based Standards (PBS) systems would be advantageous

    RESPONSIBILITIES / KPAS:

    Conduct strategic analysis, benchmarking and develop revised/new strategies

    • Identify limitations / bottlenecks in current harvesting and logistics operations
    • Develop and research alternatives / improvement opportunities on specific systems / operations and/or strategic interventions across operations to improve safety, health, productivity and costs

    Ensure technology transfer and implementation

    • Manage and further develop relationships between Mondi internal functions, contract partners, equipment suppliers, training and research institutions
    • Manage and actively engage in knowledge transfer to improve forest operations efficiency and effectiveness (for example facilitate and conduct training interventions and forester and area manager level & contract manager and contract owner level)

    Develop technical solutions, research designs and outputs

    • Design technical solutions for e.g. safety challenges on individual machines in cooperation with machine owners and equipment suppliers
    • Develop research designs for e.g. testing new equipment or optimizing current harvesting / logistics systems, ensure research phasing, statistical soundness of trial / research and manage implementation and practical role out / application of research results

    Direct systems development and equipment selection

    • Ensure most cost effective, safe and productive harvesting and transport systems are applied across Mondi operations in partnership with operations line management
    • Advise contractors, foresters, area managers on systems and equipment selection

    Advise the business on relevant legislation changes and develop “adjustment” plans and strategies

    • Establish and strengthen external collaborations with national forestry sector role players within the context of harvesting and logistics (commercial companies, equipment suppliers, research and development institutions and Universities

    Prepare written and verbal communication and results

    • Effectively communicate results, challenges and problems across all levels of management
    • Communicate overall strategies and progress to stakeholders and management represent the company at conferences through written and oral presentations

    Contribute towards Ongoing excellence in Safety

    • Oversee all Forest Engineering related documentation in Mondi IMS, updating/amending/improving and distributing to the business.
    • Assist in relevant incident investigations as well as the close out of relevant investigation findings within the discipline.
    • Oversee the Power-tools portfolio including the management and oversight of the Elite Chainsaw Operator Policy

    Team Leader

    • Oversee the Operations Research specialist portfolio, including work study, system costings and operations research trials.
    • Oversee the Machine Data Specialist portfolio, including the roll-out of the machine data strategy and ongoing system integrations within Mondi and SiyaQhubeka Forests (SQF)

    RTMS

    • Represent Mondi and SQF at the RTMS Steering Committee, including provision of weighbridge data, updating RTMS Coding in the Mondi weighbridge systems and investigating non-compliances in road transport as requested by the Department of Transport.

    Reporting to the Manager IT Forestry, the purpose of this position will be to evaluate, implement, design and build IT business solutions and manages resources in their area of responsibility, ensure that system application solutions fit business process needs, develop solutions to support smooth operations and improve business efficiency, automation and productivity and to competently work with and understand data for reporting purposes.  This role requires a high level strategic understanding, as well as being able to get into the detail.

    Profile Requirements:

    Experience:

    Automation Technician

    The Technician Automation is responsible to ensure application, programming, modifications, system configurations, maintaining and troubleshooting and provide support to the Chemical Plant team for process and control challengers.

    Profile Requirements:

    • Light current / N6 Diploma in Instrumentation and Process Control
    • Preference: B Tech / diploma / S4 Instrumentation

    Experience:

    • 2 to 5 years or better experience as an Instrumentation Artisan.
    • Good understanding of the DCS & & Industrial safety e.g. Hazardous Areas, BMS, SIS etc.

    Manager Forestry Development - Richards Bay

    Purpose of the position:

    • The incumbent in position will be responsible for the development of a small grower database, digitalizing all the data into Mondi Database System and extension services for growers with a view to migrating to an APP based extension and transacting platform.

    Qualification & Expertise

    RESPONSIBILITIES / KPAS:

    • Provide practical forest operational support to the community forestry and related fibre enterprises.
    • Drive the collection, digitalization, co-ordination, and verification of small grower data onto the Mondi Integrated Forest Management System (from GPS mapping, compartment data
    •        (size, age, species planted), per grower, per Area) 
    • Conduct annual update of emerging timber growers' plantation management details.
    • Monitor seedling suppliers, support Agents in development of the Annual Plan of Operations (APOs), timber establishment and harvesting verification thereof
    • Facilitate the onboarding of new growers, compliance, and assessment of small grower plantations, 
    • Conduct Chain of custody check, support in closing out of FSC Audit Corrective Action Preventive Actions (CAPAs)
    • Conduct required interfaces with Tribal authorities & Community growers committee on timber flow and small grower matters when required. 
    • Develop and implement forestry extension support for emerging growers (from establishment, maintenance, fire prevention standard operating practices, including development of manuals) 
    • Drive Agents, growers, and contractors in achieving FSC & PEFC and meeting National Forestry standards.
    • Develop and implement Forestry community owned- business mentorship and support small grower Agents and Contractors, including compliance and governance standards and audits.
    • Conduct regular interfaces to discuss and monitor business & operational development progress in all aspects of transacting between Timber agents and growers, logistics and operational 
    •        management.
    • Support Forest enterprises and emerging growers with the management of timber volumes, establishment and market facilitation and optimization, through development of reports and scorecards
