    Health Helper.5.05

    We are seeking individuals to fulfil the role of Programme Facilitators, which are equivalent to Community Health Workers. The role requires candidates to have a professional work ethic, due to 
    the sensitive nature of some of the topics covered. Candidates should be non-judgemental,  approachable, have good interpersonal and communication skills, and should be comfortable leading intervention activities. Furthermore, candidates should be passionate about helping and empowering young people to make healthy choices about their mental well-being. Candidates should also be good  role models of healthy behaviour. 

    The successful candidate will be based within the DPHRU site in Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic  Hospital in Soweto

    General Responsibilities:

    •  Attend training required to implement the programme. 
    •  Conduct telephonic and face-to-face sessions with participants.

    Requirements:

    •  Be female or male, and between the age of 22 – 35 years old.
    •  Have finished matric, and have some post-matric training (e.g. certificate, diploma). 
    •  Must be willing to work in the Soweto community (and be able to travel to Soweto, if not resident in Soweto).
    •  Must be willing to work Tuesday – Saturday.
    •  Training in Healthy Conversation Skills will be an advantage.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working with community-based programmes (health or mental health).

    Project Coordinator.4.05

        ​​​​​​General Responsibilities:

    •  Oversight of all project data collection coordination .
    •  Oversight of financial and procurement coordination of the project.
    •  Oversight of project monitoring and reporting on study progression.
    •  Oversight of project data quality assurance
    •  Oversight of project training needs
    •  Maintaining Regulatory documents and project administration

    Requirements:

    •  Matric with a post-secondary qualification (social science and humanities) is essential.
    •  Previous work experience (at least 5 years) in a research environment and with qualitative research methods is essential.
    •  The successful candidate must have good supervisory and interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational ability.
    •  High levels of computer literacy in the following packages (MS Office, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet, and E-mail)
    •  A valid driver’s license is essential
    •  Must be willing to work at the Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Exposure Science)

    Qualifications:

    A master’s degree or PhD in environmental sciences, exposure science, occupational hygiene, chemical/ ventilation engineering, or related field.

     Experience:

    • Experience in conducting research, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications. 
    • Publication of at least 1 (lecturer) or 8 (senior lecturer) scientific papers in accredited peer-reviewed journals.
    • Contribution to the development of the field of occupational and/or environmental exposure and health is preferable.
    • Evidence of writing and submitting grant/contract proposals will be an advantage.
    • Evidence of teaching experience at postgraduate level, particularly in occupational and/or environmental exposure science.
    • Student supervision at postgraduate level will be an advantage.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.
    • Interest in, and commitment to, building research capacity in the field of occupational and/or environmental exposure science and health.

    Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the research portfolio in exposure science in the Wits SPH by initiating, developing and conducting health-related exposure studies.
    • Teach courses in occupational and environmental exposure science.
    • Contribute to curriculum development.
    • Supervise/co-supervise postgraduate student research within the Wits SPH
    • Contribute to grant applications.
    • Actively participate in the academic endeavours of the Wits SPH
