    Manager: Academic Planning and Quality

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent will be required to:

    • Providing advice and guidance on programme/qualification development to academic departments and faculties, including requirements by external bodies;
    • Facilitation of the process of programme development, approval, accreditation and registration with the Department of Higher Education and Training, Higher Education Quality Committee and South African Qualifications Authority;
    • Preparing annual trend reports from external evaluation and accreditation reports;
    • Continuously reviewing programmes offered by the University versus the approved Programme Qualification Mix (PQM), ensure that all qualifications and programmes offered are accredited by the CHE and registered by SAQA;
    • Coordinating the affairs of the Academic Planning Committee (APC) and the Sub-committee of APC, including setting the agenda; organising meetings and coordinating submissions from the Executive and faculties;
    • Planning, designing and implementing strategies for gathering and use of strategic information for academic planning, including monitoring regulatory requirements pertaining to the accreditation of academic programmes;
    • Supporting units under review to prepare for external evaluations and accreditation visits;
    • Developing, implementing and sustaining institution-wide stakeholder-driven quality management and assurance systems and processes;
    • Contributing to the development of quality assurance policies, procedures and strategies;
    • Liaising with faculties and professional service departments to ensure the implementation of improvement plans;
    • Initiating, building and managing collaborative links with faculties and support service departments around academic planning and quality assurance and promotion issues and activities;
    • Liaising with the Department of Higher Education and Training, Council on Higher Education, South African Qualifications Authority, relevant professional bodies and other Higher Education Institutions.

    Minimum Requirements

    • An Honours degree in the relevant field;
    • A total of five years’ experience in the field;

    Proven experience in/and knowledge of:

    • Higher education policy matters;
    • Facilitation of academic planning in a higher education environment;
    • Management and execution of quality related projects, including institutional audits, programme accreditations and external reviews;
    • Knowledge of policies and requirements of relevant external bodies, i.e. DHET, SAQA, CHE, USAF, etc.
    • Experience in writing plans and reports.
    • Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)
    • Knowledge of higher education policies related to teaching and learning, academic planning and quality assurance;
    • Knowledge of the functioning of a University;
    • Mastery of the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework;
    • Good interpersonal relations and the ability to interact with senior academics; government officials and members of the private sector, nationally and internationally;
    • Ability to develop terms of reference for review of academic programmes and support service departments;
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English;
    • Meticulous attention to detail;
    • Results orientated with high delivery ability, demonstrated capacity to organise own work and work against tight deadlines;
    • HEMIS reporting system;
    • Excellent Information Technology skills;
    • Report writing, data analysis and interpretation;
    • Strong interpersonal skills;
    • Ability to work in a team;
    • Ability to build partnerships;
    • Sensitivity to diversity.

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • A Master’s degree in the relevant field;
    • Lecturing experience.

    Lecturer (25 hours per week) - School of Health Care Sciences - Department of Occupational Therapy - Faculty of Health Sciences

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in neurological and physical conditions (including biomechanics and splinting);
    • Clinical supervision of undergraduate students;
    • Administration and coordination of clinical placements;
    • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects ;
    • Participating in skills training and assessment;
    • Module coordination including updating course content and revising study guides;
    • Maintaining the electronic learning environment;
    • Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department;
    • Conducting research at a national and international competitive level;
    • Participate in the Department’s, SoHCS’s, and Faculty’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, learning and community engagement.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy;
    • Current registration with Health Profession Council of South Africa;
    • One DHET accredited publication.

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • Good interpersonal and mentoring skills;
    • Good computer skills;
    • Able to work in a team
    • Scientific writing skills.

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • A valid driver’s licence and own transport;
    • PG Hand therapy diploma or Master’s in Hand Therapy or Master’s in Occupational Therapy (Neurology);
    • PhD Occupational Therapy;
    • At least one-year teaching experience at Higher Education Institution;
    • A DHET accredited publication must preferably be published in the last three years.
