    Project Planning & Controls Specialist

    Job description

    Job Summary

    As a Project Planning & Controls Specialist, you will be part of the Industrial Automation Division and Power Generation Business Units (BU) based in Modderfontein.     Tasks

    As a Project Planning & Controls Specialist you will be responsible to lead planning, scheduling and cost control efforts for all project phases. Maintain and analyse actual and forecasted schedules, cost and risk. Monitor, report and manage deviations. Your Tasks as a Project Planning & Controls Specialist will include the following:

    • Ensures projects follow sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with internal standard procedures. Ensures that an integrated schedule and cost control performance measurement process for the project’s entire scope of work is provided.
    • Analyzes project requirements with project team, checks that all essential work activities have been identified in sufficient detail to serve as a basis for developing realistic project schedules. Defines, jointly with the project team, project work and cost breakdown structure, develops and maintains properly linked, required resource loaded/integrated, baseline and current schedules that provide time phased baseline, actual and forecast data for project.
    • Monitors project progress and regularly analyzes project critical paths to ensure all critical path activities and project milestones are progressed to the plan, notifies Project Managers of any deviations or scheduling issues, and provides input for optimizing resources.
    • Issues progress reports, program updates and productivity data on a regular basis and as requested by customers and stakeholders. 3. Cost, revenue and cash flow management:
    • Establishes a baseline plan for cost and cash flow performance measurement.
    • Works with project team to define the necessary resources for project completion, evaluating the work breakdown structure and standard productivity.
    • Accurately monitors costs and project cash flow, maintains detailed estimate to complete and estimate at completion forecast, Analyzes variances by using earned value management techniques and advises project management on any cost and cash flow issues arising. 4. Change management:
    • Works closely with engineering, construction, pre‐commissioning, commissioning, client and contractors to identify potential changes in scope and quantify the impact of each change in a timely fashion.
    • Administers the change order systems and advises the Project Manager on the cost impact of potential changes and ensures the control estimate/budget is current and reflects changes. 5. Risk management:
    • Works with project team to identify and assess the priority of project risks (e.g. schedule, cost and scope risks), maintains the risk register and proposes mitigation plans. Analyzes impact of risk on the overall timeline and costs. 6. Procurement:
    • Integrates material resource requirements with project schedule and defines procurement activities and order lead times. Regularly communicates with SCM team and updates schedules to ensure procurement activities take place in a timely way and lead times are optimized to meet schedule targets. 7. Project reviews:
    • Participates in project reviews. Composes reports and updates all required project data in Project Control systems and SAP for Management Information and Project Analysis. Communicates project progress and control issues to project management team and offers solutions. 8. Stakeholder relations:
    • Effectively communicates appropriate information to customers and other stakeholders in a timely manner and to achieve desired understanding. 9. Project administrative tasks:
    • Performs regular monthly project administrative tasks.

    • Ideally you will have a matric qualification or Degree in Project Planning coupled with 3 years’ experience working at a Power Station.

    Role Summary

    As a Warehouse Materials Operator, you will be part of the Robotics and Motion (RM) Division and Motors and Generators Business Unit (BU), based in Alrode. Robotics and Motion (RM) division offers a wide range of products and services including drives, motors, generators and robots. Key applications include energy conversion, actuation, automation, standardized manufacturing cells for applications such as machine tending, welding, cutting, painting, finishing, palletizing and packing, and engineered systems for the automotive industry.

    Tasks

    As a Warehouse Materials Operator, you will be responsible to develop and implement the current Alrode stores into a workable WIP store. To develop effective HR strategy, policies and procedures implemented to ensure a smooth and hassle free WIP store and to ensure the company has the necessary resources to achieve its short, medium and long term business plans. Your Tasks as a Warehouse Materials Operator will include the following:

    • Execution: Executes the assigned work according to agreed work flows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines.
    • Storage: Responsible for sorting and arranging material for storage as per guidelines. Performs other routine activities according to established procedures.
    • Dispatches:The job may include picking components from stock for dispatch, final packing on pallets, transport of boxes, and various other collection, storage and warehouse activities.
    • General tasks:Prepare, monitor and control all WIP stock which will include direct procurement parts, Checking, GRV, pick and issue to production in time for the months revenue.Monthly cycle counts to ensure all parts are accounted for as per inventory Stores returns to suppliers and liaison between QC with this regard .Will ensure minimum stock levels of stock is available and maintained.Will be responsible for the stock levels of Gas (both forklift and production).Will be responsible for the paint store, minimum stock to be kept as per the companies H&S guidelines.Keeping to the annual department budget.To ensure expenditure is in line with the business plan.

    Requirements

    Ideally you will have a Matric qualification coupled with minimum 2 years of experience in Stores/Warehouse sector. Your ability to work under pressure, precise and accurate with some knowledge on SAP/Syspro background will make you an ideal match for this role.

    Project Engineer (Protection and Control)

    • As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible to act as the responsible engineer (design authority) for secondary and protection design engineering functions on projects considered to be of low engineering complexity. Engineering discipline lead on small projects or portions of larger projects. Complete engineering assignments efficiently and cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. Your tasks as a Project Engineer will include the following:
    • Technical contribution – Creates the engineering design concept/philosophy definition. Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform engineering assignments. Reviews and approves design deliverables for an engineering discipline and acts as the technical lead for that discipline with the client.     Requirements

    • Ideally you must have Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and should be registered with ECSA or be eligible for registration coupled with 3 to 4 years of working experience in Power Systems Protection and Control environment.
    • You should have good technical knowledge of Power Systems Protection & Control, testing of Protection & Control schemes, SCADA systems, RTUs and commissioning.
    • You must be technically competent analytical thinker, who pays attention to detail with good communication and interpersonal skills, combined with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, as well as excellent writing skills and in conjunction with your ability to work under pressure, handle stress, use of own initiative and be proficient in using advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, Projects) and being fluent in English (oral and written) will make you an ideal match for this role.
