    Purpose

    Minimum Requirement

    Dean Of Faculty: Education (Five- Year Fixed Term Contract)

    Purpose

    • The purpose of the position is to take responsibility for the academic leadership and management of the Faculty through the provision of high-quality technically advanced and cost-effective educational service in alignment with the strategic objectives of the University. The incumbent will report to the DVC: Teaching & Learning and serves on various committees including the Senate and Faculty Board.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in any discipline of Education. 
    • An outstanding academic with an established track record 
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience(research/lecturing) in the tertiary education sector, of which five (5) years at the level of Head of an academic Department /School or the level of Deputy Dean 
    • An established academic leader and scholar with an excellent publication and research record at a level that attracts respect and credibility from within the University, national and international scholars, and other relevant external bodies 
    • Has a demonstrated track record managing and running an academic department 
    • Has a successful record of leadership and teamwork 
    • Has the ability to mobilize and inspire others toward shared goals

    Laboratory Technician: Technology Education

    Purpose

    • Responsible for laboratory management, research support and assistance to academics in the Department of Natural Science Teaching in the Faculty of Education.
    • The incumbent will be responsible for instrument and equipment management in the Department, procurement, technical support, education and training (practicals), health and safety management to all staff, students and visitors in the research laboratory spaces. As a laboratory technician.

    Minimum Requirement

    • BSc Honours Degree NQF 8 in Technology Education (or related field in STEM education); 
    • Two years’ experience related to the operation and management of laboratory work, especially in a tertiary institution.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Liaise with Technology lecturers on maintenance of equipment or  
    • Assume responsibility for the maintenance of equipment

    • Stock control and ordering of consumables 
    • Arrange for specified lab waste disposal and deal with gas rentals related matters

    Senior Laboratory Technician: Agriculture (One- Year Fixed Term Contract)

    Purpose 

    • The main purpose of this position is the overall management of laboratories and to ensure that practicals offered to students conform to the highest quality standards and supports the teaching, research and community engagement objectives of the Department.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Relevant Honours Degree NQF level 8
    • At least 3 years related experience, including supervision
    • Computer literate 
    • Driver’s license.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Laboratory Management 

    • Assume operational control of Laboratories.
    • Purchase, store, use and dispose of materials and protective clothing.
    • Organize and/or install and commission all new apparatus.
    • Coordinate maintenance of equipment
    • Liaise with representatives and visitors to Laboratories.

    Instrument and Equipment Management

    • Plan, schedule and supervise a regular maintenance program for all apparatus/equipment.
    • Arrange for the repair and maintenance of laboratory and related equipment and instruments.
    • Liaison with manufacturers for major repairs
    • Maintenance of service histories and contracts for all equipment/instruments
    • Ensure security checks of the laboratory to ensure equipment is secured/protected.
    • Install and commission minor.

    Education and Training (Practical's)

    • Conduct preparatory work for practicals
    • Supervise staff (Technicians and Lab Assistants) during the setting up of practicals
    • To be available in the relevant practical session and to instruct students as directed by the Lecturer.
    • Liaise with external stakeholder/s to keep abreast of latest developments and equipment available.
    • Compile or assist in the compilation of practical manuals.

    Health and Safety Management

    • Responsible for Health & Safety Induction to all staff, students and visitors to the laboratory
    • Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are observed in the laboratory.
    • Maintain and upgrade health and safety standards.
    • Ensure laboratory staff is complying to health and safety legislation.

    Resource Management: Human Resources

    • Manage Laboratory staff and fair allocation of workloads.
    • Manage staff training, development, coaching and mentoring.
    • Manage employment relations (grievance, discipline and conflict resolution)
    • Manage Laboratory staff leave.

    Resource Management: budget, finance and procurement

    • Purchasing of equipment and protective clothing
    • Stock control and ordering of consumables.
    • Manage expenses against budget.
    • Report on expenditure.
