    Manager: Communications and Marketing

    Main Objectives
    To support the overall divisional strategy by executing and monitoring the communications and marketing strategy. To support the Director by giving input into the conceptualization of the divisional strategy and providing specialist input with regards to communications and marketing. To lead and manage the communications and marketing section and to enhance strategic information flow, institutional brand equity, strengthen and elevate Rhodes University’s prestige.

    The requirements
    A three-year tertiary qualification (NQF level 7) in Journalism and Media Studies, Marketing, Communication, or equivalent plus approximately 7 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • At least 5 years’ experience in previous experience in the development, implementation, and management of marketing strategies
    • Previous experience in branding management and promotion with measurable results
    • Proficient in the use of current marketing applications, systems, and tools
    • At least 3 years’ management experience
    • Previous experience working with senior management in an organisation, where strategic input has been required

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor

    The requirements
    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor:

    • A PhD in Sociolinguistics or Applied Language Studies with experience in teaching in disciplinary areas such as IsiXhosa Language Teaching, Language planning, Terminology, Lexicography with a focus in African Languages.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the School of Language and Literatures

    The requirements
    Lecturer

    • At least a Masters’ degree in isi-Xhosa Literature or Language Teaching. Candidates need to be registered for a PhD at the time of applying and are required to be nearing completion of their PhD within the three-year probationary period. Ability to teach in disciplinary areas such as isi-Xhosa Literature, isi-Xhosa Language or Second Language Teaching.

    Senior Lecturer

    • A PhD in isi-Xhosa Literature or Language teaching.  Experience in teaching in disciplinary areas such as isi-Xhosa Literature, isi-Xhosa Language or Second Language Teaching.

    Admin Assistant

    Main Objectives

    • To provide a professional front-line service to students, staff, the public and visitors to the Psychology Department. To assist visitors and students with directions and placement, and to provide an administrative/technical support service to the Psychology Department and the Psychology Clinic.

    The requirements
    Matric plus approximately 2 years relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Previous front-line and administrative experience within a computerized environment.
    • Previous experience working with word processing and spreadsheet packages is essential; including the ability to create and maintain databases and use email and the internet.
    • Previous experience in a computerised environment with basic troubleshooting experience in computers and printers.
    • Previous experience on website administration will be an advantage.

    Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor in the History Department

    Main Objectives

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor

    • A PhD in African History or the History of the African diaspora with experience in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas:
    • For post 1: History of Science and Technology Studies OR Marginalisation, Inequality and Redress. 
    • For post 2: Socio-Economic and Environmental History of Africa. Expertise in Eastern Cape History would be an added advantage.
    • In both instances, Historians with a background in Archival studies or Archival Science would be an added advantage.

    Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level, and make some contribution to their profession.

    The requirements

    • PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field. Candidates with MSc (Pharm) degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or MPharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field, with progress being made towards a PhD will be considered. As a guide, progress implies intended submission within the next 12 months.

    PLUS

    • Experience: Usually 7 to 10 years of teaching experience OR 7 to 10 years of professional experience in a health or medicines-related field.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level required.
    • Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry.
    • Experience in Industrial Pharmacy would be an advantage.
    • Good research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
    • Emerging national profile in discipline.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
