    Chief of Staff Senior Manager - Audit & Assurance

    Job Description
    Function:

    • The role of the Chief of Staff is both managerial and advisory so as to increase the bandwidth and velocity of the Managing Partner for Audit & Assurance - Africa in such a way as to concentrate their time, effort, and priorities on strategic initiatives.
    • The ideal candidate will have the acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate operational demands.
    • The Chief of Staff champions the implementation of strategy, provides support to leadership within the business and builds strong relationships across serviced business areas. Must have demonstrated the ability to deal with highly confidential information and act as a liaison between the Head of Audit (HOA) and other constituencies, both internal and external. 
    • Must have the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate must also be able to work effectively in a fast paced and project-driven environment with constantly changing requirements. You will require energy, excellent engagement skills and a passion for growing Deloitte Africa.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Client impact

    • Oversees delivery of specific area of expertise to Service Line/s on a national basis
    • Provides expert professional input on strategic and complex issues related to area of expertise
    • Forms appropriate judgements based on careful analysis to make sound business decisions on issues
    • Contributes to thought leadership initiatives and shares knowledge and expertise with client, Service Area/Line, colleagues and teams

    Operational Effectiveness:

    • Tracking strategic initiatives of the HOA (Head of Audit)
    • Monitoring progress towards meeting goals and achieving benchmarks, analyzing data, ensuring follow-through on the part of key players, and sustaining momentum needed to drive these initiatives.
    • Stays connected with members of the committee
    • Collecting data, alerting the HOA to progress or problems in carrying out the initiatives agreed upon
    • Operate reporting system into the office of the HOA from all relevant departments and direct reports
    • Creates and operates a reporting system that allows for a timely flow of necessary data into the office of the HOA from all relevant departments and direct reports
    • Manage effective communication between meetings
    • Developing communication between committee meetings, setting agendas, creating initial drafts of communications to key strategic team members, helping to prioritize plans for addressing issues that are impacting progress towards initiative benchmarks

    First alert system

    • Serve as a first alert system – an extra set of eyes and ears – keeping the HOA aware of unanticipated problems to be addressed or opportunities to be considered
    • Create and to utilize systems (both formal and informal) for gathering reliable information on what is happening throughout the business with regard to the strategic initiatives being tracked
    • Manages complex risk issues within sphere of responsibility ensuring issues are rectified as soon as possible

    Keeping of best practices to be implemented throughout the organisation

    • Develops and oversees a process for capturing, cataloguing, analyzing and disseminating key lessons to be learned from initiatives, with a view towards helping the HOA propagate best practices throughout the enterprise
    • Act as ambassador for the HOA
    • Buffering communication with other members of the strategic team in cases where there are sensitive issues to be addressed;
    •  Active inbox management for HOA - drafting replies where necessary, actioning necessary initiatives and requests
    • Takes responsibility for supporting the Audit Exco members with the Africa Exco mandate

    Project Management:

    • Executive project oversight: Acts on the authority of the SLL to oversee and manage strategic projects
    • Leads and executes change projects aimed at creating a common purpose and behaviour across the Business Unit
    • Keeps Service Line /Area leadership teams updated on status of all projects within area of responsibility

    Management / Advisory Impact

    • Supports the Service Line Leader (and Audit EXCO as and when required) in planning, directing, managing and coordinating day-to-day business activities, and strategy related projects
    • Maintains the Strategic Plan, organise and arrange strategy sessions, and ad-hoc analysis and decision support. 
    • Prepares agendas, briefings, and preparation materials for meetings, appointments, and events;
    • Partner and BUL report back & roadshows, various, business speeches & presentations
    • Coordinates with external event organizers with logistics, and communicate needs on behalf of the SLL
    • Conducting internet research to keep up to date on things that are important to the Business
    • Interacting with the Global office, local and Africa wide committees, and other constituencies on behalf of the SLL

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:

    • Registered CA
    • Understanding of the audit business, strategy and challenges
    • Notable experience on providing Strategic Insights to Partners

    About the Job

    This is an exciting opportunity to join the Financial Advisory Team in Deloitte's Turnaround & Restructuring group, where you will be advising boards, management teams, lenders and shareholders of companies which are underperforming and/or facing financing issues. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced global practitioners in the field.

    Our Financial Advisory-Turnaround & Restructuring team works closely with:

    To qualify, you should have the following skills:

    • Financial restructuring experience gained either as a senior advisor within a professional services firm, consultancy, investment bank or in a workout/ restructuring team
    • Strong understanding of debt markets, banking, loan agreements and other relevant financial and legal documentation
    • Good understanding of the restructuring marketplace, its trends and key players (principals and advisers)
    • A developing network of relevant contacts in the market
    • Very strong analytical skills, including: business analytics, business planning, short term cash flows, financing options. A basic understanding of business rescue legislation and practice is not a prerequisite but helpful
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of leading clients/ providing advice in difficult situations
    • Strong project management skills
    • Ability to lead teams and develop people
    • Commitment and willingness to work under pressure, sometimes long hours, always putting the client at the centre

    The main purpose of the job is to support the engagement Manager/Senior Manager in the delivery of services on delegated client engagement/ projects.
