    Programme Manager (P8): Quality Assurance

    Purpose

    • Programme Manager: Quality Assurance coordinates and implements university-wide quality assurance projects and initiatives.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Relevant Master’s Degree.
    • A relevant PhD or PhD in progress will be an added advantage.
    • 5 years of relevant experience in higher education on teaching and learning.
    • Knowledge of quality enhancement.
    • Understanding students and staff development.
    • Knowledge of programme development.
    • Computer literacy, report writing, research skills.

    Duties and responsibilities 

    • Assurance and Enhancement in the formulation and monitoring of the CTLPD strategy on quality enhancement.
    • Make inputs in policy development concerning Quality Assurance portfolio.
    • Provide a detailed operational plan of the quality assurance portfolio in alignment with Quality Assurance and Enhancement portfolio and CTLPD strategic goals.
    • Provide a professional service to university-wide Quality Assurance.
    • Act as a point of coordination for the Schools/Faculties regarding all aspects of accreditations.
    • Ensure programmes are funded at the correct HIMS code level.
    • Coordinate the preparation for a new programme to serve at academic planning committee for recommendation to senate.
    • Provide training to department personnel on the accreditation process.
    • Maintain accreditation compliance documentation to include collecting and uploading proofs of compliance.
    • Provide support to schools/faculties on feedback received from statutory bodies.
    • Assume accountability for the operational management of the portfolio.
    • Make inputs in costing the portfolio implementation plans.
    • Provide regular management reports on operational and strategic matters to the Senior Manager: quality assurance and enhancement.
    • Identify and report possible risks that can hamper the achievement of key performance indicators.
    • Implement the information management system for accreditation processes.
    • Provide website content for keeping the development programmes website up to date.
    • Provide management relief support as provided by the senior manager.
    • Implement and manage operational activities.
    • Participate in reviewing current quality assurance policies and procedures

    Senior Lecturer(P7)/ Lecturer (P8): Computer Science

    Purpose

    • The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Sol Plaatje University seeks to appoint a senior lecturer or lecturer in computer science. The candidate will be expected to teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates with specializations in at least one of the fields: Algorithms and Programming, Database Systems, Computer communication networks, Data Structures, and Programming.
    • Languages, Machine Learning, Computer Security and Ethics, Artificial Intelligence.
    • Candidates selected for senior lecturer will be required to give a short presentation on a specified topic.

    Minimum Requirement

    Lecturer P8

    • MSc in computer science or relevant discipline.
    • At least two (2) years of teaching or industry experience.
    • Evidence of active research and some publications in journals accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry, and/or community activities.
    • Knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements.
    • Excellent computer skills.
    • Good interpersonal, communication, organisational, and planning skills.

    Senior Lecturer P7

    • PhD/Doctorate in computer science or relevant discipline
    • At least five years of relevant experience, where 3 years must have been in Higher Education.
    • Evidence of managing a research program and some publications in accredited journal/s, as well as postgraduate research supervision.
    • Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management.
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry, and/or community activities.

    Recommendation 

    • Evidence of postgraduate student supervision.
    • Experience in program and curriculum development/review.
    • Good interpersonal, communication, organisational, and planning skills. 

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    Teaching:

    • Develop and present a reflective teaching portfolio that covers the approach to teaching; contributions to curriculum development; design of learning materials; innovative pedagogy; student and junior staff mentoring; successful supervision of postgraduate students; formal participation in teaching and learning development courses; Student and/or peer evaluations of own teaching; Evidence of scholarship of Teaching and Learning would be beneficial.
    • Provide evidence of teaching modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as evidence of postgraduate supervision.
    • Contributions to curriculum development.
    • Design of learning materials.
    • Innovative pedagogy.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements.
    • Evidence of national and/or international collaboration within the computer science fraternity.
    • Student and junior staff mentoring.
    • Formal participation in teaching and learning development courses.
    • Student and/or peer evaluations of own teaching; Demonstrate the ability to teach across subjects.

    Research:

    • Demonstrate evidence of continuous research productivity in the form of:
    • Publications in DHET-accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, research papers presented at national and/or international conferences.
    • Contributions to scholarly books published by reputable publishers, in good standing with DHET, and not linked to predatory practices.
    • Highlight evidence of managing a research program.
    • Evidence of external research fundraising.
    • Proof of citations ( e.g. Scopus H-index); Evidence of scholarship of Teaching and Learning would be beneficial.
    • NRF rating is recommended OR demonstrate potential for obtaining and NRF rating within the next five 5 years.

    Community Engagement:

    • Significant involvement in discipline or departmental official activities and processes.
    • Active academic participation in workshops/forums in higher education.
    • Movement towards recognition in the broader subject/ discipline community.
    • External examining/ moderating at other higher education institutions at UG and/or PG levels.

    Curriculum development and accreditation

    • Contribute to curriculum development and participate in curriculum review to ensure alignment with sector /discipline norms and requirements.

    Student academic development

    • Identify, report, and support students at risk timeously.
    • Develop intervention strategies.

    Administration

    • Keep attendance registers.

    • Assist with registration of students.
    • Invigilate test and examinations.

    Library Assistant (P13) X2

    Purpose 

    • The primary purpose of a library assistant is to assist in the provision of library services. This may include circulation, interlibrary loans, training and information management tools acquisition, and cataloging. 

    Minimum Experience

    • NQF 6 Diploma in Library & Information Science.
    • Minimum two (2) years of working experience in an academic library, preferably in higher education environment. 

    Recommendations

    • A Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science in Library & Information Science or an equivalent library qualification with 1-year relevant experience in higher education will be an added advantage.
    • Experience in Computerized circulation systems (e.g., ALMA) and Discovery tools (e.g., Primo, EDS).

    Duties and responsibilities

    Information resources

    • Issue, return and renew books and journals on a computerized circulation system.
    • Help with interlibrary loans.
    • Assist with new books processing.
    • Shelve books that were used by the students.

    Consultation

    • Assist students with information queries face-to-face, via chat service, telephonically, and electronically.

    Training

    • Provide one on one information information-searching skills for undergraduate students.
    • Assist information librarians with students’ orientation and training.

    Information processing tools

    • Help students with the use of information management tools such as discovery tools, Libguides and reference management tools.

    Library space

    • Assist students with the booking of venues in the library.

    • Adhere to health and safety rules and procedures.

    Administrator (P13): Internal Audit

    Purpose

    • The administrator's responsibility in this position is to proactively provide efficient and effective administrative and secretarial support to the Department.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12.
    • Two (2) Years relevant experience.
    • Relevant formal qualifications will be added as an advantage.
    • University experience is an advantage.

    Duties and Responsibility

    • Manage the Director: Internal Audit and Risk Management calendar and schedule all meetings accordingly.
    • Diaries the dates of Internal Audit and Risk Management monthly staff meetings.
    • Arrange staff meetings with employees and coordinate all logistical arrangements for the division.
    • Arrange trainings and workshops for both internal audit and risk management divisions.
    • Ensure all relevant documents that require approval are approved. and filed accordingly.
    • Arrange and set up audit meetings for opening and closing meetings.
    • Prepare and distribute minutes of opening and closing meetings and monthly meetings.
    • Prepare and distribute minutes of risk management meetings.
    • Compile other documents as instructed by management.
    • Ensure the procurement of all goods and services when needed is done in terms of prescribed SPU supply chain policies, process, and in a timely manner.
    • Report maintenance issues timeously as they occur.
    • Create requisitions and GRV on ITS and quarterly monitor actual expenditures and alert the Director where there is a concern.
    • Monitor the department budget and provide monthly progress.
    • Compile and maintain electronic audit files as instructed and close them timeously.
    • Prepare and distribute client feedback for audits and risk management engagements.
    • Assist with organizing and coordinating risk assessments as required.
    • Help with monitoring the data analytics reports as instructed by management.
    • Help with monitoring the risks and findings issue tracker.
    • Perform follow-up on outstanding requested documents.
    • Keep a record of all approved documents.

    Librarian Collection Development (P8)

    Purpose

    • The main purpose of the collection development librarian role is to strategically build, manage, and maintain a balanced and accessible library collection that enhances student success and research production.

    Minimum Requirements 

    • A Degree in Library and/or Information Science or equivalent qualification.
    • At least five years (5) working experience in an Academic Library, preferably in a Higher Education environment with at least 2 years of experience performing the responsibilities of this position.

    Recommendations

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in collection development services, including, but not limited to, conducting collection gap analyses, managing invoices and requisitions, overseeing contracts and licensing, budgeting and financial management, and developing policies

    Duties and responsibilities 

    • Analysing the collection's strengths and weaknesses to ensure it aligns with current and future academic programmes and research niche areas.
    • Electronic Resources Management (ERM).
    • Facilitate the procurement process for all information resources, including print and electronic resources.
    • Oversee the life cycle of electronic resources, from acquisition, licensing, renewal, administration, evaluation to cancelation.
    • Negotiating contracts with vendors, managing subscriptions, and ensuring that licensing terms meet institutional requirements.
    • Prepare reports on the usage, and cost-effectiveness, of e-resources.
    • Draft collection development policy.
    • Track expenditures and make adjustments based on changing needs or budget limits.
    • Participating in consortia purchasing agreements, and other partnerships to extend access to resources.
    • Adhere to health and safety rules and procedures.
    • Participate in library health and safety initiatives.

    • Pursuing opportunities for formal training and certification in specialized areas relevant to the librarian's role.
