    General Manager Strategy and Transformation-Contract Role

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

    The General Manager: Strategy and Transformation will be accountable for the end to end shaping (i.e. ideating, refining, and business justification), scoping, delivery management, and performance tracking and reporting across a portfolio of cross-functional strategic programs linked to MTNs Ambition 2025 strategy.

    The General Manager: Strategy and Transformation will lead combined teams of in-house consultants, 3rd party contractors/partners and subject matter experts from the business in project teams depending on program requirements. The position will act as a Transformation Office Lead for multiple large-scale programs simultaneously.

    The General Manager Strategy and Transformation will also be accountable for building MTN’s PMO capacity through creation and implementation of best practice process, systems and people management techniques within their program teams and in the wider organization

    The General Manager Strategy and Transformation will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

    Project Shaping and Delivery

    • Develop programs and define the program scope to achieve a given set of strategic objectives. This will require the translation of high level strategy planning into an actionable set of program deliverables in consultation with the relevant business unit program sponsor
    • Create the high-level budget and resourcing plan to deliver the scope of the portfolio of programs with support from finance as required
    • Achieve buy-in for the scope developed from key stakeholders to secure the necessary resources and funds to deliver
    • Setup the governance framework to steer program delivery with appropriate levels of upward, lateral and downward visibility
    • Lead the delivery of programs from inception to point of handover to the business units and ensure business are responsible for BAU ownership, facilitating the required change management and capability building needs in the handover process
    • Define the measures of success and ensure all program reporting during delivery and post implementation performance and sustainability management is completed as per the applicable performance management framework
      Ensure adherence to project budgets and schedules
    • Proactively anticipate, identify and manage risks which impact program delivery or and drive collaborative mitigation and syndication of risks across all relevant stakeholders
    • Manage and develop program teams:
    • Plan and resource programs with the balance required to deliver effectively, while adhering to program budgets.
    • Engage resources to manage resource constraints that may arise within the business
    • Effectively allocate the scope of work between in-house consultants form the Group Transformation pool, external contractors and business unit talent
    • Develop the program delivery, technical and soft skills of the program team members and take responsibility for the project teams development, quality of work, ways of work, project lifecycle and post implementation.
    • Build MTN’s overall program execution capability
    • Contribute to the knowledge repository for cross functional and cross market knowledge share – compile and constantly refine the MTN delivery playbook
    • Perform post implementation check-in of strategic programs to enable continuous improvement and drive similar improvement across senior leadership stakeholder groups
    • Improve and standardise the quality and effectiveness of relevant key projects’ performance management processes

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

    Education:

    • Minimum 4-year Academic Degree
    • Minimum Post graduate qualification (MBA/CA/Masters)

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in structuring, scoping, and delivering large and complex programs end-to-end and working across diverse stakeholder groups and project teams. Demonstrated strength in managing Transformation Offices, building and managing efficient and relevant reporting and governance frameworks, and leading cross-functional teams and steering committees toward high-impact outcomes.
    • Ideally a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry working with or consulting for telco operators or their strategic suppliers
    • Significant experience working across diverse cultures and geographies; building and leading high-performance teams; building and leveraging high-impact executive-level relationships

    Executive: Group Risk and Compliance

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

    Establish and implement a comprehensive second line assurance function and framework for the MTN Group and its Board of Directors. The purpose being to effectively manage all risk exposures of an internal or external nature (strategic, operational, compliance, financial, market, political, economic etc) and ensure effective internal processes and policies and compliance to laws and regulations across the MTN Footprint.

    Collaborate with the MTN leadership team to ensure that risks are identified and considered in the development of the strategic vision, and proactively manage to balance both the risk and rewards of the business. Facilitate the organisation’s definition of risk appetite and tolerance levels, coordinate risk assessments to identify all key operational and strategic risks, provide leadership and direction on risk governance, facilitate prioritisation of mitigating strategies with risk owners, manage the risk transfer program (insurance) of the Group, work with management to establish a common set of policies and procedures to strengthen to control environment and ensure that business is conducted in an ethical manner and communicate risk and compliance reports to management and the Board of Directors.

    Key Deliverables

    The Executive Risk and Compliance will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

    • Build a risk-aware culture by providing ongoing education and appropriate briefing and training
    • Investigate and research emerging risks and trends in the industry advising management where appropriate
    • Establish and quantify the MTN’s ‘risk appetite’, i.e. the level of risk MTN is prepared to accept
    • Establish a risk management framework for MTN to effectively manage all risk exposures (opportunity, hazard, uncertainty etc) that pose an internal or external threat (political, economic, financial, market, international) to the business, its people and assets
    • Establish a compliance framework for MTN to effectively manage compliance to all applicable laws and regulations and a common set of policies and procedures
    • Manage the risk to the MTN Group, its employees, customers, reputation, assets and interests of stakeholders
    • Responsible for MTN Group Risk Management programs, policies and procedures which includes program development, and providing both oversight and direction for management of risks across the organization
    • Develop a comprehensive risk management business plan and control system in line with the MTN strategic direction and corporate governance and ethics framework and Board of Directors
    • Implement systems for monitoring the effectiveness of all the risk management services and compliance; and present findings to the MTN senior leadership
    • Benchmark local and international risk and compliance management best practices and strategies and incorporate best in class practices within MTN
    • Develop a comprehensive compliance universe (in line with all local laws and regulations), process universe and compliance management program to guide the implementation of compliance management in the Group and its OpCos

    • Ensure achievement of the objectives of an effective Corporate Compliance framework to be established across the Group
    • Ensure risk evaluation, which involves comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organisation such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, and evaluating the organisation’s previous handling of risks
    • Ensure risk and compliance reporting in an appropriate way to different audiences, for example, to the Board of directors so they understand the most significant risks, to Group Exco to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their parts of the business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks
    • Ensure corporate governance involving external risk reporting to stakeholders
    • Establish and manage a comprehensive risk transfer/insurance program for the MTN Group to ensure that all insurable risks are adequately insured with world class brokers and A-rated insurers including insurance classes such as Property Damage/Business Interruption, Political Risk and Political Violence, Directors and Officers and Liability
    • Establish a business continuity framework that will protect the staff and assets of the Group and prepare it to respond to and recover from major disaster events
    • Implement the necessary physical security measures across the footprint of the Group to protect the MTN staff and assets of the Group
    • Implement an Ethics management program to ensure that the Group conducts business in an ethical and socially responsible manner
    • Ensure that audits of policy and compliance to standards are conducted, including liaison with internal and external auditors these frameworks to be applied to Opcos
    • Ensuring that support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness across the MTN Group is executed
    • Review, recommend and enhance the Company’s Risk and Compliance Management’s roadmap, policy, framework, methodology and system
    • Conduct Post Investment Reviews of major CAPEX to ascertain whether proposal cost benefits are being realised and report to Senior Management
    • Establish and chair risk and compliance management governance fora and act as the accountable head for chairing and monitoring such forums.
    • Develop strategies for ensuring future compliance and mitigation of risk i.e Material legislations, fines and reporting requirements for various regulators (also includes JSE)

    Senior Manager Commercial Legal (Group Technology)

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

    The Senior Manager: Commercial Legal (Group Technology) is responsible to manage all aspects of commercial legal requirements, transactions and initiatives within the MTN Group, with a primary focus on the Group Technology Unit of MTN and areas of business overseen by the Group Chief Technology and Information Officer.
    This role will manage and provide guidance and advice on all legal aspects of transactions, legal risks and other legal matters, with a primary focus on contracts, transactions and initiatives relevant to the Group Technology business unit.
    The role will also be involved in supporting and assisting with technology related matters, transactions and initiatives undertaken by other business units.

    Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)

    The Senior Manager: Commercial Legal will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

    • Draft, negotiate and formalise legal aspects of commercial arrangements and agreements, with a primary focus on those required by the MTN Group Technology team (being the team falling under the oversight of the Group Chief Technology and Information Officer), including with respect to the acquiring of new partners, suppliers and customers
    • Act as the primary legal support for the establishment, development and roll-out of the Chenosis business (being an African API marketplace), including all legal activities associated with the business
    • Manage and provide legal advice and opinions
    • Manage the legal aspects of and participate in various projects and initiatives undertaken by the Group Technology team and, if required, other business divisions of MTN, including liaison with other stakeholders as required.
    • Advising on privacy and data protection issues, including ensuring compliance with applicable laws
    • Management of litigation (if required) and active engagement in the resolution of any disputes.
    • Draft and update contract templates in line with best practices
    • Identifying developments and inventions requiring intellectual protection and registration (eg. patents and utility models) and working with the Group IP team to secure such registrations;
    • Draft and update legal policies and procedures in line with best practices
    • Provide support, guidance and advice to MTN Operating Companies, where requested or required, regarding legal aspects of transactions, legal risks and other legal matters, with a primary focus on the provision of Technology services by the MTN Operating Companies
    • Manage legal relationships between Operations, and management of legal relationships between MTN and its trade partners, suppliers and customers.
    • Effective negotiation, drafting and reviewing of quality contracts.
    • Attend to all legal queries in relation to the Technology* business and contracts and, if required, in relation to other business divisions of MTN.
    • Liaise with, and collate feedback from, various internal stakeholders and departments for purposes of Technology-related transactions, initiatives and projects and, if required, those related to other business divisions of MTN.
    • Ensure that input of relevant internal stakeholders and departments is addressed and reflected in transaction documents and in policies and procedures
    • Advise management and stakeholders on new legislation and the impact thereof on the Technology business and, if required, other business divisions of MTN.
    • Monitor and keep abreast of legal and industry developments
    • Knowledge sharing and providing training to members of the legal team and other stakeholders on legal and industry developments
    • Liaise with, and manage, external law firms, to the extent required
    • Ensure all agreements, contracts and other documents of a legal nature comply with company policies and procedures
    • Identify possible risks, and manage the implementation of mitigating strategies.
    • Track and if necessary enforce key contract terms.
    • Manage non-adherence to contractual commitments.
    • Ensure subject matter expert opinions and recommendations have been implemented in draft contracts and templates.

    Note that the Technology business includes all activities falling with the area of oversight of the Group Technology and Information Officer (which extends to the telecommunications and information technology areas of the business)

    Executive: Software Engineering

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

    In line with the technology trend pivot towards to software Defined Everything (SDx) and pursuant to the MTN Ambition2025 and Platform business strategic aspirations, the Executive Software Engineering (SE) is responsible for defining, developing and executing on the Software Engineering Strategy and maintaining the long term growth for delivering the software engineering on front end customer experience layer systems, partnerships and integration points.

    The Software Engineering business will be established as a commercial, separate entity within MTN Group providing Software Engineering services to 18 Core Telco Opcos and all Business Platforms such as Fintech, Enterprise, Chenosis, Ayoba and Fiberco.

    The role is responsible for the definition of the overall strategy, the business plan and for the execution of the plans across the MTN OPCOs and platforms footprint, will lead the SE to facilitate business outcomes, by effectively managing technological, financial, operational, commercial, and strategic business objectives.

    The role will be responsible to execute the required strategy to orchestrate the software and data architecture across complex, multi-faceted applications hosted across cloud platforms, private clouds, and on-prem domiciled applications across multiple markets and platforms. The role will help achieve business agility, at scale; impacting multiplier effect by bringing about positive impact in multiple OPCOs and platforms, various product areas, and newer markets.

    • Define software engineering governance, run and report on activities of these forums and report to Group Exco on progress update.
    • Ensure the collation, consolidation, and delivery of Software engineering demand in a manner that promotes Software re-use and preservation of intellectual property across the group core OPCOs and platforms.
    • Integrate various tools in the DevOps toolchain to accelerate development teams’ velocity while maintaining high standards for quality and consistency
    • Develop, incubate and nature internal talent in line with MTN objective of ins-sourcing key software development skills.
    • Managing risk around release management through configuration management, patch management, and version control and other means.

    Manager: Digital Performance Marketing

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

    The Manager: Digital Performance Marketing is responsible for the development, execution, and management of the digital activation and performance marketing strategy to increase Monthly Active Users of Group Finco service Web and Mobile Applications. The incumbent will be responsible for creating and managing experiences to drive awareness, consideration, activation and loyalty; as well as provide best practice and recommendations for the platforms required to enable these experiences.
    The incumbent will work closely with Brand & Marketing to drive the development and execution of digital consumer engagement activities that support Ecommerce and Payments.

    Strategy Development and Implementation

    • Orchestrate the end-to-end digital activation process and strategy (conceptualization, production, and execution) that will ultimately drive desired actions (acquisition, retention, advocacy, referral, etc.)
    • Provide reports and analysis to support and contribute to the development of the functional digital and fintech strategy in line with the overarching business goals

    • Initiate and support innovation across our Digital Media activities, with relevant help from our Digital Agency Partners. Deliver cross channel insight and optimisation recommendations across all digital media, whilst closely monitoring budget and set KPIs.
    • Optimise processes in line with the value creation philosophy: individual contributions and recommendations to improve existing business project/initiative, capital/budget efficiency activities, contracts review and negotiation
