    Cadetship

    PURPOSE: 

    The purpose of this cadetship is to provide young individuals who are interested in pursuing a career as a Navigational or an Engineering Officer within the fishing industry. This is a learning opportunity that combines practical on-the-job experience and formal theoretical knowledge which will equip the incumbent to qualify as a Navigational Officer or Engineering Officer.

    OUTPUTS & MEASUREMENTS:

    • Acquiring theoretical studies and/or a qualification within the set time frame.
    • Development of competencies through working onboard the vessel as either a deck cadet or an engineering cadet.
    • Developing values and skills required to ensure that the fishing industry is provided with recruits who have a passion for the sea.
    • Displaying the conduct and practical skills required by the assigned Officers.


    REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

    • A minimum of Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics, Physical Sciences and English as subjects OR a NQF Level 4 qualification.
    • Must have excellent sight and colour vision.
    • Must be willing to spend long periods away from home and be able to study whilst at sea.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to function within a high-pressure environment.
    • Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam for food safety workers, and a SAMSA medical including tests for hearing and substance abuse.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights of 2.5m and more.

    Junior Payroll Administrator - Maternity Cover

    JOB PURPOSE:

    Process the organisation's payroll in a timely and accurate manner. Create and maintain employees' payroll records. Calculating salaries/wages and applicable deductions based on employee attendance, sickness, tax liabilities and timesheet records etc. Enter payroll information into central system for processing. Complete payroll reports

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    Duties include but will not be limited to:

    • The processing of the company payroll on a monthly / weekly basis.
    • Maintains payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data from operations and management
    • Assist HR with the administration the company workplace pension scheme, enrolments and liaison with the company's pensions advisors regarding administrative matters and monthly submissions.
    • Process employees' expenses with the monthly salaries / wages.
    • Caretaker of company loans and other adhoc expense claims.
    • Liaise with the HR department to ensure accurate information for payment 
    • Computes employee take-home pay based on time records, benefits, and taxes
    • Completes payroll reports for record-keeping purposes and managerial review 
    • Performs the distribution of salaries and wages by direct transfers to employees' bank accounts and payslips by an online platform.
    • Determines organisation's tax obligations by calculating taxes as well as statutory deductions, union payments and 3rd Parties.
    • Maintains employees' confidences and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
    • Assist with any payroll accounting activities when required.
    • Adheres to payroll policies and procedures and complies with the relevant law
    • At all times ensure compliance with Sea Harvest Group systems and Operating procedures 
    • Carry out any other reasonable task as may be allocated or requested by Senior Managers.

    QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

    • HR or Payroll Diploma / 3 years' experience within an HR / payroll function.
    • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills
    • Min 1 year SAGE 300 experience with processing full payroll function.
    • Experience within a highly unionised environment. Full understanding of BCEA and Labour Legislation.
    • Understanding of Payroll Recons and General Ledgers.
    • Ability to think logically and perform duties within very tight deadlines.

    Assistant Payroll Accountant

    JOB PURPSOE:

    Reconciliation of Payroll entries to the accounting system and balancing thereof. Generation of Payroll Journals and monthly processing.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    Duties include but will not be limited to:

    • Analyse compensation-related data including salaries, wages, bonuses and other payroll related information for review by your manager.
    • Prepare ledger entries based on salary reconciliations and adjustments.
    • Conduct regular audits on payroll financial transactions.
    • Review accounting procedures and ensure compliance.
    • Assist with EMP201 and EMP501 reconciliation and submission to SARS.
    • Manage and reconcile all accounts payable and receivable from salary perspective.
    • Adhoc payroll duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    • Diploma in Accounting / experience with reconciliations. 
    • Excellent numerical reasoning and mathematical skills.
    • SAGE 300 people experience preferred.
    • Intermediate Excel user.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Excellent understanding of employee taxes, benefits and statutory deductions.
    • Excellent understanding of the BCEA and labour legislation.

    Apprenticeship

    PURPOSE:

    • The purpose of the apprenticeship is to provide young unemployed persons with an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will develop their competency in an occupational trade.

    OUTPUTS & MEASUREMENTS

    Duties include but will not be limited to:

    • The successful applicants will be appointed as full-time apprentices.
    • They will enter a fixed-term contract with Sea Harvest for the duration of their training.
    • They will be required to complete core experiential workshop training and complete a Centre of Specialisation (CoS) Programme at a TVET college, that will be fully funded by the company.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Preferably youth.

    • Must have passed NTC 3 (4 Subjects) or NCV Level 4 or Matriculated with Maths & Science or a Technical Matric.
    • Proven/similar practical training & experience in an occupational trade.
    • Must pass a medical examination.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Willingness to work shifts and overtime.
    • An eye for detail, dexterity.
    • A technical foundation would be of great benefit to the successful incumbent.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights above 3 metres.
