    Administrative Officer

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • The Centre for Performing Arts (CPA) is unit in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), The scholarship of Engagement for Societal Impact, also termed community engagement, is the foundation of the work undertaken at the CPA.
    • To meet these needs music courses were specifically designed for main stream school learners as well as community music practitioners.
    • The vibrant student community of primary and high school learners, higher education students from UWC and other institutions and community musicians are registered for the Intermediate Programme in Music and the Advanced Programme in Music as extracurricular subjects.
    • The adaptable scheduling of lessons and lectures creates access to arts education at a higher education institution.
    • Currently, the CPA has two active ensembles – the UWC Jazz Combo and the UWC Community Chamber Choir. We are currently planning to add the UWC Wind Orchestra in the new year.
    • Our outreach to schools working with disabled learners include the Athlone School for the Blind in Glenhaven, Bellville and the Oasis Special School in Belhar.
    • We have also engaged with the Pinocchio Creche in Three Anchor Bay which started as a creche for domestic workers’ children.
    • We seek to engage the services of an administrator who has an interest in the arts as we aim to grow the academic offering to include dance and to expand to drama as we develop new curriculum to meet the needs of arts education on campus and the communities we serve.
    • The role is not limited to the unit or the university, but also an understanding of the diverse age of the student body, interpersonal relationships with parents as well as stakeholders and partners off campus.
    • An opportunity currently exists for candidates to apply for the position of Administrative Officer to provide administrative support to the work of the Centre for Performing Arts in fulfilling its mandate to enhance learning, teaching, and student success at UWC.

    Reporting to the Manager: Centre for Performing Arts, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the administration and execution of the following tasks:

    • Academic administration
    • Financial administration
    • Reception and general office administration
    • Record-keeping and data management
    • Marketing and communication
    • Meeting administration

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 and a relevant three-year post-matric qualification, plus two years’ relevant experience 
    • OR Matric plus three to five years’ relevant experience
    • Proficiency in UWC administrative systems

    The following would be advantageous:  

    • A Bachelor’s or PG degree 
    • Interest in the Arts

    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Teamwork
    • Individual leadership skills
    • The ability to collaborate with various stakeholders 
    • Planning and organizing skills  
    • Excellent time management skills 
    • Proficient use of computer office applications
    • Good writing and minute-taking skills
