    Shift Boss (Steelpoort)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To supervise the cost-effective execution of all mining work ensuring the achievement of mining and quality targets and to ensure compliance of provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY 

    • Ensure SHEQ compliance within the Team through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

    PEOPLE

    Mining:

    • Inspect all workings in area of responsibility as frequently as may be deemed necessary by the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Inspect every working face blasted within 48 hrs
    • Inspect all other workings (not blasted) at least once a week at intervals not exceeding 10 days
    • Daily during shift inspection visit all miners under his charge and satisfy himself that work is proceeding safely under every mine section
    • Record findings in the logbook
    • Ensure adequate material is available for safe production. 
    • Measure blasted panels and plot on survey plan.

    Tactical Planning:

    • Monitor and control the Tactical Plan
    • Achieve Mining Budget

    Requirements

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum qualifications:

    • Grade 12 / N3
    • Shift Boss Certificate
    • Blasting Certificate
    • Minerals Act Regulation (15.1) 
    • Mine Overseer Certificate (Mining) Will be an advantage
    • Additional qualifications:

    Required Experience:

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    Mineral Resources Specialist Mine Planner (North West)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • Apply appropriate mine planning software to develop medium, long term and Life of Mine designs and associated schedules to optimise the exploitation of the lease area. The time frame for this role will range from 3 months to Life of Mine planning.

    • Provide specialist knowledge and advice to all levels of management to identify and resolve a wide range of occupational hygiene related issues.
    • Compile blasting schedules conduct re-entry intervals to quantify the validity of the set times.

    • Ensure that operating costs are minimized through proper designing the accurate size of airways, fans and refrigeration.
    • Ensuring that all pollutants are addressed before they could be health hazards and that risk assessments are covering all health-related hazards generated at WCM.

    MR Specialist Survey (North West)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To lead the survey team in providing a totally safe and integrated surveying service in accordance with company standards and the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, QUALITY:

    • Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
    • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
    • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
    • Ensure that an issue-based risk assessment on the operation of a drone is comprehensively conducted and complied with by all users
    • Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions 
    • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards 
    • Ensure full compliance with the requirements of Chapter 17 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) with regards to surveying, mapping and mine plans and any other relevant regulations and acts 
    • Actively participate in, and lead interventions aimed at contributing to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and ensuring compliance with specified legislation, SHE policies and procedures and, operational standards, instructions and governance requirements.

    BUSINESS PROCESSES:

    • Ensure high level of standards and work output are maintained in the department
    • Provide specialized Survey service to the business process
    • Short term and long-term planning
    • Support the overall management of the MRM discipline 
    • Assist with Capital Project management and feasibility studies 
    • Underground visits with personnel to conduct planned task observations and safe behaviour observations
    • Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained 
    • Develop and implement skills and activities that enhance team performance and align with operational requirements, organisational objectives, and sound mining practices 
    • Oversee the annual calibration and servicing of all survey equipment to ensure optimal accuracy and functionality 
    • Establish and maintain an accurate and reliable surveying control network across the asset, both surface and underground, ensuring compliance with Chapter 17 of the Mine Health and Safety Act, alignment with operational requirements, and adherence to industry standards for precision and data integrity 
    • Provide professional service and support to the asset, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment with the Mineral Resources Management sections' needs and objectives 
    • Conduct regular research on industry best practices and provide strategic recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness 
    • Oversee the Survey information recording systems and relevant data backup to maintain accuracy and integrity 
    • Effectively manage capital and operating budget expenditures to ensure alignment with department.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Degree or Diploma in Mine Survey (Mine Surveying) or Mine Surveyor’s Certificate of Competency 
    • 4 years’ relevant Supervisory experience.

    Knowledge and Experience:

    • Demonstrate an understanding of mineral resource management, surveying, and legislative compliance to ensure safe and integrated service delivery
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and instruments.

    MR Specialist Geology (North West)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To oversee geological/mining exploration, capturing and validation of data and developing geological models for the optimal exploitation of mineral resources.

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

    • Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
    • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
    • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.

    PEOPLE:

    • Manage employees within the Geology department
    • Manage performance against set targets and competencies
    • Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
    • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
    • Conduct recruitment interviews.

    CUSTOMERS:

    • Liaise with internal and external customers.

    BUSINESS PROCESSES:

    Geology:

    • Lay out borehole sites, roadways, filed mapping and update geological plans
    • Perform geotechnical mapping and sampling in a range of geotechnical areas to provide surface exploration data.
    • Surface Exploration:
    • Oversee surface exploration drilling activities
    • Perform core logging and sampling of boreholes, capturing and interpreting of data 
    • Prepare samples for analysis.

    Geological Data:

    • Conduct a risk assessment using geotechnical data and a local geotechnical plan
    • Supervise the rehabilitation of a geological exploration site
    • Perform geotechnical mapping and sampling in a localised known environment to provide data for surface exploration
    • Perform geotechnical core logging and sampling in a localised known environment to provide data for surface exploration
    • Analyse and interpret data to achieve mine design from a geotechnical rock mass monitoring programme
    • Measure, plot and interpret area measurements within an underground workplace
    • Identify and evaluate signs of deteriorating ground conditions during the mining process

    Acquire, capture and validate geological data for:

    • Exploration
    • Mining (development, stope, mine maps and sections)
    • Interpret and present geological data to stakeholders
    • Record and plot Geological Data onto exploration plans.

    Geological Database:

    • Administer the geological database
    • Initiate new development requirements (GBIS)
    • Review and update current geological data.

    Geological Modelling:

    • Develop geological models
    • Assist in mineral resource/ore reserve estimates.

    Geological Reports:

    • Compile Geological Reports
    • Create ad hoc geological database reports.
    • GROWTH:

    Requirements

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • BSc Hons Degree or BTech (Geology) 
    • 4 years’ relevant Supervisory experience
    • 6 Years’ relevant experience

    Systems:

    • Microsoft Programs
    • Samancor Chrome Systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, SAP, Coupa, MES)
    • Other systems: GBIS, Minex, etc.

    Skills:

    • Required training as per training matrix
    • Soft Skills as identified per department / level
    • Read surface mining plans
    • Apply a range of project management tools and techniques.

    Knowledge:

    • Demonstrate basic understanding of ISO 9001 / ISO 14000 / ISO 18000
    • Demonstrate understanding of Mining Geology / geology related to mining / legislation and compliance in the Mining and Minerals Sector / water reticulation systems / rehabilitation using topsoil process / characteristics of different depth environments / concept of time in geology / location and type of Samancor Cr Mineral Resources / status of Samancor Cr resources / problem-solving techniques / basic health and safety practices related to mining
    • Demonstrate elementary knowledge and understanding of the interaction between rock strength, stress, and fracturing
    • Understand the kinds of minerals and related products mined and beneficiated in South Africa
    • Recognise, record and report hazards associated with geological discontinuities.
