    Specialist Investment - Durban

    Minimum requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, investment management or any other relevant qualification (NQF Level 7).
    • 1 - 3 years experience an investment advisory, financial planning, or treasury environment.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements.
    • Knowledge of DUT financial and treasury-related policies and procedures.
    • Understanding of the Higher Education environment.
    • Sound knowledge of the current and future practices in the business area to apply to the best interest of the Institution.
    • Knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures applicable to the specific work environment to ensure that work outcomes are compliant with the policies and procedures.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Provide key data, information, and investment related advice for input into the strategy of the treasury function in support of the Treasury Manager.
    • Implement and meet targets assigned in the Treasury function’s operational plan.
    • Conduct investment planning, procurement, and the investment of funds for DUT.
    • Monitor growth in investment assets and ensure acceptable returns.

    Payroll Officer - Durban

    Minimum requirements for Lecturer:

    • Minimum 4 years HR Payroll experience.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the systematically arranged collection of computer data, structured so that it can be automatically retrieved or manipulated
    • Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation applicable to Human Resource Management and Taxation in a South African context
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Institutional policies and procedures applicable to the specific work environment to ensure that work outcomes are compliant to the policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of various payroll systems/packages.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Receive a request for a salary adjustment.
    • Process the information and load onto the master data file in accordance with procedures.
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data by performing monthly data checks prior to payroll run.
    • Receive and analyse query to determine nature and content requirements (pay/medical aid/pension fund/cellphone allowance/etc).
    • Determie the problem with accordance with the query.
    • Ensure that the solution resolved the query.
    • Prepare statutory payments.
    • Run report on all statutory payments.
    • Reconcile statutory payments against General Ledger posting in accordance with procedures.

    • Engage with the new employee and guide/make recommendations of the options available.

    Senior Specialist Payroll - Durban

    KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    •  Manage payroll office and ensure that the required payroll processes occur as per agreed SLA’s.
    • Implements and maintains systems and procedures to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions.
    • Ensure that employees are provided with timeous accurate, salary payments compliant with all applicable legislative requirements.
    • Manage and perform monthly payroll run processes.
    • Manage annual payroll processes e.g. Salary Increases, Bonus Payments, Reconciliations EMP501, IRP5 certificates etc.
    • Liaise with Finance Business Unit on all payroll processes.
    • Manage all transactions within payroll.
    • Create and maintain a climate conducive for team performance to enable the team to deliver on set targets, service level agreements.
    • Monitor and measure the department’s performance in accordance with the metrics agreed upon in the performance agreements and corporate balance score card.
    • Initiate pro-active and corrective actions as required to ensure service delivery.
    • Manage the department in accordance with policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
    • Review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend changes to Company policies resulting in best practices.
    • Oversee payroll audit process and reporting aspects of internal and external audits; identifies and resolves discrepancies.
    • Ensure that all monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax filings are met; ensure all local statutory payroll and fringe benefit reporting requirements are met.
    • Complete management actions within the required time frames.
    • Coach reportees by compiling and providing clear feedback on work performance and providing constructive suggestions to improve performance.
    • Run simulation payroll to confirm everything is in order and make necessary amendments.
    • Run simulation of General Ledger to confirm against payroll and make necessary amendments.
    • Ensure the Payroll system is in compliance with legislation, for example: updated UIF changes are affected, tax is deducted according to new tax tables, pension and medical aid are deducted correctly.
    • Prepare and manage budget related to payroll programs.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • NQF Level 7 qualification in Industrial Psychology, Human Resources Management, or related field PLUS Payroll Certification from a recognised higher education institution

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    The applicant must have specific experience in the following areas:

    • Minimum 7 to 8 years within an HR environment with a particular focus on payroll and HR administration.
    • With supervisory experience.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the systematically arranged collection of computer data, structured so that it can be automatically retrieved or manipulated.
    • Demonstratable knowledge and experience in payroll administration and management.

    Accountant Payroll

    Minimum requirements:

    • B Degree in Accounting, or any other relevant qualification (NQF Level 7).
    • Registration with a reputable accounting body.
    • 3 - 5 years Payroll experience, preferably in a higher education sector.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and rules such as UIF, Tax , Skills Levies, PAYE, WCA.
    • Understanding of IFRS and other relevant accounting standards.
    • Understanding of payroll-related practices such as payroll reconciliations.
    • Understanding of Financial systems.
    • Advanced Proficiency in MS Office.
    • Proficient in SAP or equivalent system.
    • Demonstrated ability to reconcile payroll and post-payroll postings.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Perform payroll data variances analysis.
    • Query and validate bottom line variances with Human Resources.
    • Process payroll payments on the systems once accuracy of data have been confirmed by Human Resources.
    • Investigate and correct payroll rejections.
    • Transfer payroll file to bank for payment within agreed timeframe.
    • Preparation, reconciliation and submission of all monthly and annual statutory returns such as PAYE, UIF and SDL (EMP 501) returns.
    • Prepare and submit all returns and declarations for the department of labour.
    • Reconcile the annual EMP201 to generate the EMP501 and submit to SARS.
    • Generate IRP5s for submission to SARS and distribution to employees.
    • Calculate any PAYE overpayment and submit any refund claims to SARS.
    • Process all statutory and third-party payments accurately and timeously prior to submission to Manager Accounts Payable and Payroll for review and approval.
    • Perform statutory and third-party payment reconciliations.
    • Submit proof of statutory deduction payments to HR
    • Make available reports, answer to audit queries from and render explanations to the DUT auditors during interim and year end audits.
    • Prepare all the payroll disclosure for the annual financial statements in line with the reporting standards and DHET requirements.
    • Prepare reports for purposes of reporting to various structures as required, in accordance with the reporting schedule.
    • Provide input into monthly reports on payroll-related metrics Ensure payroll system updates take place as scheduled.
    • Submit forecasted increase in employee benefits and statutory contributions to Manager Accounts Payable and Payroll for inclusion in the payroll budget.

    Accountant - Reporting - Durban

    Minimum requirements:

    • B Degree in Finance or Commerce or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7).
    • 3 - 5 years' experience in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements and external financial reporting

    • Keep abreast of changes in the accounting and financial regulation, legislation, and reporting framework and ensure the University is ready for implementation.
    • Assist with the preparation of external audits.
    • Provide external auditors with the required information.
    • Assist with the resolution of audit findings.
    • Prepare statistical data for external reporting to the Reserve Bank, Statistics South Africa, and Department of Higher Education.
    • Prepare financial performance indicators for the Department of Education for comparative purposes.
    • Prepare information for the timeous and accurate submission of statutory reports to the relevant authorities and governing bodies.
    • Prepare and file tax returns.
    • Attend to financial queries from internal and external stakeholders and refer unresolved matters to the Manager External Reporting.
