    What will you do?
    Santam Operations, Commercial Contact Centre have career opportunity available for a Commercial Underwriter based in Bellville. The underwriting consultant’s key focus is on underwriting new and existing business to maintain profitability while also creating a platform to aid the growth process. Taking responsibility for sound underwriting decisions through mandates and taking initiative. The underwriting consultant will also get involved in internal referral underwriting decisions to provide guidance to contact centre consultants and brokers. The CoE is a key source of knowledge and leverage to the business at large. CoE is the final gate keeper of the health of the risk.

    Personal Administrative Assistant: Commercial Underwriting

    The incumbent will play a key role in supporting the Head of Commercial Underwriting as well as the wider Commercial Underwriting team. The incumbent will be required to handle highly confidential documents and information requiring utmost discretion.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Administrative support

    • Expense management for the team. This includes monitoring budget spend including the preparation of the budget and handling budget related queries, preparing and lodging expense accounts and claims for payment and administrative purposes.
    • Gathering information and conducting background research, follow-up, preparing of summaries, basic analysis as and when required
    • Office asset management and maintenance of asset register for the team (e.g. laptops). This includes stationary management (inventory maintenance and requisition), maintaining of office systems, data management and filing, organograms and mailing and teams lists.
    • Diary management. This includes timeous and accurate scheduling of meetings ensuring that venues and appropriate facilities have been arranged as needed as well as following up on diary requests to ensure appropriate and constructive allocation of time.
    • Function organizing and management, such as strategic sessions and various team events, including venue hire and all logistical aspects and catering associated with such events.
    • Managing and actioning incoming email, often corresponding on behalf of the manager, if needed.
    • Screens phone calls, enquiries and requests
    • Assist with Ad hoc requests as needed by the Commercial Underwriting (CU) team

    Travel Co-ordination

    • Co-ordinate travel arrangements for Head of Commercial Underwriting and Commercial Underwriting team as needed

    Insurance Consultant

    What will you do?
    Santam Operations, Commercial Contact Centre have career opportunity available for Insurance Consultant base in Bellville. The insurance consultant role is focused on providing an end-to-end service and support to brokers.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • This role is focused on, but not limited to; servicing broker requests, including enquiries.
    • Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    • Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries;
    • Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / agri aspects of policies;
    • Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements;
    • Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy onto books;

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • A relevant insurance related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 4) would be advantageous 
    • Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry

    Senior Risk Surveyor

    The Senior Risk Surveyor is tasked with assessing risk while applying technical knowledge. Surveyors conduct detailed risk assessments on the risk, as well as provide an in-depth view to underwriters assisting them to underwrite the risk appropriately, more specifically:

    • Conducting desk top and physical surveys

    What will make you successful in this role?

    The role of a surveyors is to understand all types of risks and its exposures that we write and provide a view on whether continued business is viable.  This required risk surveyors to be highly technically skilled.

    The risk information provided by the surveyors allows the organisation to determine whether the risk will be treated, tolerated, terminated or transferred. This function is at the core of capabilities provided by the risk surveying team. The role of the risk surveyors translates Santam’s aspiration of being a risk management partner into action.
    The surveying role is a critical function within risk services. Surveyors conduct site inspections and evaluate risks based on information provided by clients, and by desktop reviews of previous surveys and information and photographs provided by clients and brokers.

    This role allows for a surveyor to work independently and to assess risks according to Santam’s and National standards.  This position may have a supervisory function in that it may need to oversee the surveyors in the risk survey setting, and provide on the job training, and do quality reviews of the work submitted.  The surveyor will work within the prescribed parameters of the role and the relevant Head surveyor.

    This role may have a consulting function where the surveyor will be called upon to consult on risks and to provide advice to Surveyors, Underwriters, Relationship managers, Technical managers, Brokers and Clients regarding the risk and alternatives to the risk reduction requirements.

    Leadership/People Management:

    • Mentor Surveyors to provide improved survey reports and upskilling staff in the understanding of the various risks and legislation and standards.
    • Closely collaborate with Property Underwriting Specialist to continuously improve Santam’s surveying capability.
    • Ensure service excellence in all survey interactions for all team members

    Survey delivery requirements:

    • Conduct surveys within the required SLA

    Qualifications and Experience

    • 7+years  of risk surveying or related experience
    • Matric and ideally Fire Service Qualification, Technical Engineering Degree or Diploma, or relevant qualification, Minimum NQF level 4

    • Competency at previous level and proven competence at risk surveying with experience in retention class and exposure stipulated above.

    DevOps Engineer

    What will you do?

    The aim of this new role is to increase the capacity to support and maintain the Guidewire & Thunderhead production and non-production infrastructure and software. 

    This role will also be responsible for 

    • Managing & supporting complex systems in the cloud. 
    • Driving optimisation of the DevOps environment through the use of automation. 
    • Providing direction to stakeholders impacted by DevOps operations and will also have to be the lead technical expert in various DevOps related domains in order to provide direction, approval and support as required.  
    • Serving as an escalation point for the technical roles in this team and for others who may need this support.

    • Provide direction and guidance to Architects and Technical Specialists on ways to automate and improve the development, release management and production observation processes & procedures.  This role will be responsible for the solution that is implemented and will have to sign off any solution developed.
    • Oversee, manage and optimise the administration of infrastructure deployment, technical support processes, support procedures, deployments & releases, servers, nodes, databases, etc.
    • Drive adoption of standards that are to be adhered to by software developers and testers to ensure that they follow established processes and works as intended.
