    Chief Structural Engineer - REF: CSENGINEER JW384EX/2023

    PURPOSE

    Provide technical leadership in managing a team of specialists within a cluster of structural engineering (Water/Sewer systems design / Pump-stations / reservoirs / towers) design in carrying out specialised engineering designs in a professional, efficient and cost effective manner to ensure timeous planning and implementation of capital projects to achieve the Company’s annual targets

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Planning of portfolio of structural engineering to ensure readiness for implementation of projects/programmes.
    • Define technical resource requirements to identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems including the procurement /engagement of external resources required for effective delivery of projects/programmes.
    • Provide technical leadership to review and approve all designs carried out in the structural engineering cluster as the responsible professional.
    • Manage projects as per the relevant provisions of Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) from stages 5-9 and ensure that structural projects designs are done on time and to acceptable quality.
    • Ensure that all structural designs are in accordance with the company’s agreed standards, policies and specifications and are cost effective.
    • Ensure monthly reports are prepared and submitted on time.
    • Manage and maintain the reporting in iPPM® for projects under portfolio and be able to generate reports as per Management requirements and ensure reports are submitted on time.
    • Prepare and review consolidated progress and performance reports for all running projects on a monthly basis and intervene to provide solutions for projects behind schedule or with issues.
    • Ensure the structural engineering cluster operates competitively, efficiently and cost effectively.
    • Ensure Long-term Portfolio Planning to ensure efficient implementation of projects to realise professional fees savings.
    • Develop, maintain and update templates for preparation of project implementation plans by staff for optimisation of projects performance and cost control.
    • Ensure Structural Design Standards, for both materials and designs, are regularly updated and approved at the Standards Committee.
    • Ensure record drawings are produced for all completed projects handled by the cluster.
    • Develop and maintain an effective interface, communication and relationships between the structural engineering cluster and other departments e.g.
    • Infrastructure Planning, Project Management Unit, Contracts Management Unit, and Operations for efficiency in service delivery.
    • Attend relevant stakeholders meetings and action or communicate instruction/s to subordinates for relevant changes to be effected on the project plan.
    • Ensure staff development and training by identifying training needs and suitable courses. 
    • Mentor and develop staff and bursar students and identify requirements for skills development under the cluster in terms of JW’s Engineering Capacitation Programme (ECP).
    • Communicate, manage and review the implementation of key performance indicators for each area of responsibility to achieve the set targets.
    • Manage staff performance, conduct performance appraisals, and identify training needs.
    • Perform disciplinary processes in line with the company’s Disciplinary Code.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Essential qualifications and experience:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering OR Bachelor Engineering Degree in Civil OR Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist
    • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience of which a minimum of:
    • 10 years must be in design of reservoirs/ pump stations/ water and or sewer –retaining structures and 5 years in construction management and leading a technical team throughout the project lifecycle for water and /or sewer retaining structures,

    Analyst Industrial Effluent – REF: ANALYST JW384EX/2023

    PURPOSE

    • To supervise and control activities of the industrial effluent control inspectorate, to assist the Industrial Effluent Manager in the regulation of the discharge of industrial effluent and processing of industrial effluent charges

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan appropriate work schedules such as sampling rosters (monthly),
    • Prepare worksheets and labels, weekly, so as to ensure continuity of sampling activities,
    • Do random checks of inspectors’ vehicles to ensure the availability of safety equipment and sampling tools at all times,
    • Check six monthly sub-meter reading data returned by inspectors and also check all captured data,
    • Do inspection and then take samples from industrial premises,

    • Use Geographical Information System (GIS) to locate various areas for ease of traceability, Log, record field data and receive routine industrial effluent samples using (LIMS) laboratory Information Management System, ensure results and reports for special samples are available within due dates, ensure compliance with Water Services By-law by preparing and serve notices where contraventions are encountered.
    • Conduct one formal training session per week to discuss job detail with inspectors, Arrange and attend site visits with inspectors to various industries for training.

    • On-going in-service training – accompany each inspector at least once per month e.g. on a sampling round.

    PURPOSE

    To provide assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of IT system controls by conducting value adding Risk-based IT audits in accordance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPIA) to ensure risk are managed to acceptable levels and assist in the achievement of the company’s strategic objectives.

    Operational Manager: Planning – REF: OPSMANAGERPLANNING-JW384EX/2023

    • Ensure that all new employees are informed of and trained to the requirements of OHASA, assist with the preparation of regional budget (OPEX) by monitoring and ensuring correct usage of cost centers and line items on works orders, creating purchase requisitions and ensure GRN’S (Goods Receive Note) as per procurement policies and Procedures.
    • Liaise with service providers on an adhoc basis to ensure that all outsourced work is completed within agreed timeframes, Liaise with internal/external auditors for audit purposes.
    • Provide leadership and management in the Treatment Works through proactive Planning, Evaluate and priorities risks, and assess the options for accommodating the risks.

    Artisan Fitter - REF: ARTISANFITTER -JW384EX/2023

    PURPOSE

    To be responsible for the repair, maintenance, availability and efficiency of all facilities and Mechanical plant and equipment located at reservoirs, towers, and water pump stations in accordance to OHASA and SANS codes of practice

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Carry out repairs and maintenance to Mechanical plant and equipment which include but not limited to Pumps, Level controls, PRV`S (Pressure reducing valves), Valves and auxiliaries. Execute planned maintenance according to Johannesburg Water Maintenance schedules and SOPS.
    • Carry out standby duties and emergency work of which must include feedback to the Telemetry control room on callouts.
    • Carry out monthly toolbox checks to comply with safety norms and standards.
    • Inform Operations Manager on any irregular maintenance issues regarding Plant, Equipment and Facilities.
    • Assist with the effective and productive planning of jobs in the section as directed by the Operations Manager.
    • Assist with the investigation of pump station and reservoir operating methods in order to enhance the systems performance. 
    • Ensure that all work orders, check sheets and overtime sheets are filled in correctly before end of shift.
    • Filling in of Vehicle Inspection sheets, Logbooks daily and submit to Operations Manager on a weekly basis.
    • Submit all petrol slips once a month as per Johannesburg Water Vehicle Policy. Manage subordinates.

    Depot Manager – REF: DEPOTMANAGER -JW384EX/2023

    PURPOSE

    • To ensure the effective operations and maintenance of the water and sanitation services to customers under the jurisdiction of the depot

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage the provision of all continues water and sanitation service to the public throughout the allocated depot area.
    • In close consultation with UFW Department ensure that unaccounted for water is kept to an acceptable minimum by managing all leaks and repairs. Ensure that all relevant records are kept for the entire Depot.

    • Ensure the implantation of performance management as per the policy.
    • Assist with the preparation of the operating budget.
